*** The Official iOS and iPadOS 18 Thread ***

The photos app is horrible. I don’t know why they changed it.

I'm thinking the same. I've spent some time doing some navigation and messing around with it and it's not toooo bad, but yeah one of those apps that felt better before the change.

I like the calculator update though, which feels like such a weird thing to say. The added customisation features for app placements, the dark icons and updated control centre are the nicest touches to this update for me.

*edit*

The 'Hide Distracting Items' feature in Safari... yes

IPAD CALCULATOR!! Can’t believe it took them a decade to give us it.

I don’t notice any difference in speed/response at all. The settings is a lot cleaner now though, haven’t come across anything that’s difficult (hidden) to find yet.

"Keep downloaded" is a great feature, I have a folder that often gets partially offloaded on my iPhone, even though I have plenty of space and it's a pain when that happens. I've set "Keep downloaded" on my phone and both my Macs. Nice.

Yep. Really struggling to use this now. And photos I just added weren't showing up, and it took me a while to realise where the 'resume syncing' bit has gone now. FFS
I switched off all the new features and you can zoom in the grid, so it’s almost the same as it was before now.

Got to change the language to that archaic form of English - US English
I did, still no sign of it?

I'm on IOS 18.1 dev beta, have I shot myself in the foot with this release? I won't get anymore beta updates for a while?

I believe the version I have does have worse battery life than official IOS 17, also performance seems to be lower, the app store is very slow, sometimes just on loading screen.

This is a big thing for me - HomeKit now allows you to manually select which device you want to be hub. When that wasn't possible, mine often had the HomePod mini in the back bedroom as the hub but it was too far away from my Ring doorbell so certain things didn't work and the only way I could force it away from that HomePod was to pull the power for a minute.

Now it's possible to pick the device you want.

New beta released today, for all devices.

Updated iPad yesterday, only really use Safari so apart from the change to dark mode haven't noticed any real difference yet, will look in more detail when I get time :)

EDIT: did notice a calculator, about time, although shame they don't include a dev option, ie hex etc, there is a scientific mode which on quick glance doesn't have the hex, dec and bin options.
