*** The Official iPad (Early 2012) Thread ***

Got my missus the new iPad for her birthday to drag her into the 21st century. It's the first bit of computer tech she has owned so I was naturally skeptical when she called me from town saying she had bought a case for it. I imagined her coming back with something from a market stall, in bright green and cheap rubber.
I was somewhat impressed.

That's awesome, did you have to order it from the US?

Yeah, although you can probably get it from various places in the UK now, I ordered it before the iPad 3 was released.

Looks cool though. Now if somebody did a skin that replicated the inside then id be interested!!!!

It would probably just be battery, not much interesting stuff inside an iPad.

I'm off to the Apple store in the Leicester High Cross shopping centre tomorrow, I'm after the 16GB Wifi iPad. I take it these stores are always well stocked up? I'm just having thoughts of driving all the way there tomorrow to find they're out of stock!

Yeah I guess that's true. I've never actually been to an Apple store, so I wanted to get one from there just to have a look around at stuff too, and a trip to Leicester will make a change :p I'm very excited now :)

Edit: Found out how to reserve one, so it's reserved :D

Don't forget the cash back too. Also seems these Three sims allow tethering if you need it.

Really? I'd heard that none of the networks were supporting tethering in the iPad3 yet, do you know differently?

Waiting for my current Giffgaff period to expire before slotting my Three SIM in, and tethering would be useful at times.

Hmm, doesn't mention about tethering on the 3 website for the 'Broadband - Pay As You Go + 3.' which they charge £20 for :o

I know with the GiffGaff data bags you can tether..

Yeah the last time I checked you had to be on a full contract to tether with Three, their PAYG offerings didn't support it.

Giffgaff don't support tethering with the iPad3 I'm afraid. Whilst it works on the iPhone, with the iPad the option isn't available in Settings.

Oh really? Would've thought if you just cut down a http://giffgaff.com/goodybags/500MB-mobile-broadband it would work.

Whether the tethering option appears in the settings on an iOS device appears to be controlled by a combination of the provider (Giffgaff), the network (O2) and the manufacturer (Apple). For whatever reason, whilst the tethering option is available on the iPhone when using Giffgaff SIMs, it's not on the iPad.

Giffgaff have confirmed this is the case and I'm sure I read that it won't change any time soon. I'd guess that there are limits imposed on what they can do by the O2 host network and they don't want them offering this feature.

Picked up a White 32gb 3/4g one today for the bargain price of £400 still in the celophane wrapping! Do I win the thread? Also someone recommend me a case? :)

It looks as if supermarkets are no longer stocking the 64GB iPads. Went into Asda and Tesco, and neither of their displays has a price tag or "take me to the counter" card for the big models. Haven't checked Argos yet.

Noticed 2 green stuck pixels on my 3 week old iPad 3 this weekend. Both in the area you would have black bars when watching 16:9 or smaller video content. NOT PLEASED.

Booked a Genius at Covent Garden and they swapped it for a new one, that they let me inspect, after confirming the pixel themselves. PRETTY CHUFFED.

Only gripe is the lights in the store are so bloody bright I could not clearly see if the new one had any dodgy pixels, easily, but they said I can bring it back if I notice them after using it.
