*** The Official iPad (Early 2012) Thread ***

will 'coffee table' simplicity still rule?

personally this, everytime.

If i want to be productive i'll open my laptop, or use my desktop. For me the iPad is a media consumption device, and a good way to demo literature/documents with my customers and manage presentations.

Hardware wise the 3rd gen iPad is nothing special apart from the screen and battery (4x as many pixels cancels out 2x GPU upgrade and the modem/screen cancel out the 1.7x battery increase)
Right now phones like the HTC One S/X are faster for everything apart from gaming and maybe a few heterogeneous apps.
The shift to cortex A15 type architecture (esp quad core tablet SoCs) will signify a huge performance leap in 2013.

Yeah. 3.1 million pixels, 4G and still 9-10 hour battery life is nothing much. As for the graphics, did you watch the App demos?

So the question is...?
How many people really want a more productive tablet OS? (The direction both Android and W8 are going) or will 'coffee table' simplicity still rule

Ahh. You trollin'

Ooops, Just had a call from my bank. It looks like one of my 20+ attempts might have been authorised last night, before might actual order went through :o

I'd better keep an eye on things!

Also for those people saying there iPad 1 doesn't slow down, assuming your running iOS 5 then I find it difficult to believe we have 3 in our office and all 3 get bogged down fairly often

My iPad became almost too slow and laggy to use on iOS 5 despite restores and fresh installs. Other people have found iOS5 to be fine but slower than 4 on the iPad 1.

just ordered one :) 32gb 4g version in black. cant wait.

have the ipad 1 and its feeling it age a little now, especially with iOS5.... if i didnt know any better id say ios5 was a virus for ipad1!. made safari crash all the time, and other apps. seems like it needs more memory really. oh well, roll on next friday.

Yeah I think the 256MB of RAM was the issue. Apps could ask the OS to page quickly enough and so requested RAM that wasn't availible. iOS promptley terminated the app for trying to access the RAM.

XCode logs point to this anyway!

Just refreshed and now it's only the White Wifi 32Gb...

I'm sure it will fluctuate a few more times as they either get more stock allocated or (maybe) some people cancel their orders or switch for another colour/capacity/connectivity.

White 32 is showing as 22nd March for me too. Impressed it has taken this long, perhaps people decided to go to stores or something. I seem to remember it not taking long at all last time round.

Same here - still slightly concerned that my order still shows as:-

"Processing Items > Delivers on March 16 "

Yeah sounds like they're certainly reaching the limit! Such a quick sell - Apple must be happy :)

Why are you concerned?

Well I thought it'd change to Confirmed or something else, maybe even a confirmation email - its the first time I've ordered anything from Apple so I have no idea what the order stages are.

The next stage is preparing for shipment and then shipped, there is nothing to worry about.

As Shine says, the next stage is "Preparing for Shipment". I got an order acknowledgement through email and the funds have been taken from my account, but I shouldn't really be expecting the Preparing stage until around Wednesday/Thursday next week.

Me. I have no use case whatsoever for a tablet currently, if it can't replace my netbook what's the point? Can't wait for W8!

One thing I have to moan about with this iPad, is the FaceTime camera. On a screen of that res, having a VGA camera is pretty inexcusable. They could have at least upped it to the FaceTime HD camera found on the Macs. Meh, I don't use FT much but it's pretty lame.

The ASUS Transformer Prime can...

And considering how horrible most netbooks are, I'd much rather have an iPad. :p

Sure the hardware can, but the OS cannot. They just don't have the flexibility or app availability that a real Desktop OS can provide. An x86 Transformer with W8 is my ideal device for the end of this year to be honest! Ofcourse there's a lot riding on Intel getting decent battery life out of there chips for this, but I don't expect ARM compatibility on W8 to be worthwhile for a good 2 years or more (old apps etc.)

You will get a confirmation email "Order Confirmation Wxxxxxxxxx". There were running very late with these. You should be able to login and check the status of your order.
