*** The Official iPad (Early 2012) Thread ***

I can't be the only person who thinks that using iBooks on the iPad 2 is perfectly fine as is?

I read a load of magazines, Walking Dead and Marvel Comics on my iPad all the time, and have never found any difficulty in reading the small text.

Will stuffing more pixels into the screen really make it that much clearer to read?

My iPad 1 runs its 5 ok, but the lack of ram does show when multitasking.

The iPad 2 has double the ram of the iPad 1 doesn't it?

So would this new iPad have 1gb or is that not really needed? Multitasking is becoming more common on the iPad especially with more and more apps using coreMIDI.
That's hardly a reasonable comparison.

To use the camera example, a better comparison would be Canon bringing out something with a sensor that can do 4x the resolution at the same or better image quality.

Nikon almost pulled that off with the d800, it's around 3 times the resolution of the d700 :)

It depends how small. One thing I noticed between the 3GS and 4S was I could read text even when it was tiny on the latter. Obviously that's a bit OTT but hey. It's the aesthetics too - no pixels creates more of an illusion of a printed page.

Also don't forget the superior colour saturation, that should make things look nicer as well... I wonder if that is the Sharp panel tech that was/wasn't going to make it onto this iPad? I haven't read anything about it yet.

Rang up Natwest and Apple over my situation today. Natwest can't do anything until they can see the retailers name by the transaction and Apple are doing some investigation.

Not very nice having no money in the bank :p (I can't even buy a case!)

Apple Store:
16GB - Cancelled
32GB - Cancelled
32GB (edu store) - Processing
Bank:
The 3 above and then 2 more payments of £480.. unknown :(

I disagree - when I use an Ipad 1/2 after using my Iphone 4 - the screens seem distinctly "soft" compared to the Iphone 4 retina display

just ordered one :) 32gb 4g version in black. cant wait.

have the ipad 1 and its feeling it age a little now, especially with iOS5.... if i didnt know any better id say ios5 was a virus for ipad1!. made safari crash all the time, and other apps. seems like it needs more memory really. oh well, roll on next friday.

Ditto I agree with the above. I've ordered the same in white though.

I don't know what everybody else was expecting. 'The new iPad' is exactly what was expected no more, no less (well except for the name). The iPad is the best tablet on the market.

As for the features people are talking about, you really need to think about them and how they fit in with apples style.

USB3 -> USB2 more than maxes out the I/O of the iPad so no need.
Thunderbolt -> see above comment, plus its even more cost and chips that require space.
USB Port -> Not in million years 99% of users wont even know what they'd use it for. Plus for every extra chip and port, you make the battery smaller.
Expandable memoory -> $$$$$$$, see above comment.
3D -> The display is cutting edge no other company offers it, I doubt its even possible to make a 3D one yet. Plus there is no content.

Every model is showing as 2-3 weeks dispatch now!

well i just preordered mine anyway :D 16gb black for me.

not sure why i bothered with the education discount, £12 is not a huge difference :P ~2% if my maths is right :P

Ive had 3 payments 'authorised' (2 credit card, 1 debit) although I've only received 1 confirmation. I've only received 1 confirmation email. Am I likely to get the other 2 chunks of cash back? and if so, when?

Or should I ring Apple about this?
