So the design is regressing into form over function territory again? Jesus wept....

You think curved screens are better?

I think you'll find a lot of people will disagree. Especially because curved screens are fundamentally a lot weaker than flat screens when it comes to shatter resistance.

To be fair it’s been form over function ever since fashion took over tech.

Those ‘waterfall’ screens are a pita for unintentional presses and always have. The curved edges also makes most phones super slippery.

Phones are so fragile and it’s it’s pretty much mandatory to put your phone in a case these days.

And you can barely get decent screen protectors to fit on the curved screens nowadays without a ton of faffing about.

Have you see the drop tests on the current model iPhone? The resilience is fantastic and I don’t think I’ve seen a single current iPhone owner with a broken screen compared to previous models.

As for cases being mandatory, I think the last time I put a phone in a case was when Apple dished our free bumpers for the iPhone 4 and I only had that on for about ten minutes because it was so awful.

Definitely wouldn’t say theyre mandatory.

I’m more scared of scratches than a smashed phone.

I have a cheap £2 case on mine which I take off from time to time.

Where on earth did you get that from? No... curved screens are the devil... but the current iPhone design of rounded sides make for a far better user experience. It’s a phone... not a coffee table ornament.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Apple removed everything but the phone from the box.

Not good for first time Apple users though and not fair to charge potentially £1049 for the base phone and then force people to buy chargers and cables separately.

What person doesn't have a charger (of any brand) at this point though I guess is the question? The only way I see this is going to effect buyers (including first time buyers) is if they go USB-C to Lightning for all variants of the iPhone 12. As it stands, the regular 11 uses the standard USB-A to lightning and the Pro USB-C to lightning.

If they follow the same strategy, then I'm guessing they are banking on the majority of people going for the cheaper 5.4/6.1" versions, and then as most people would have some form of USB-A charger, they would just use that along with the USB-A to lightning cable supplied. And those going for the Pro will already have a USB-C Brick from their 11 Pro/iPad Pro.

We've all got/had chargers lying in the boxes unused over the years so i can see why they'd want to attempt to reduce waste, but it's certainly something that could get messy though.

Isn't this going to fall foul of EU regulations? They get away with not using USB because they bundle an adapter, but if they remove that then the EU won't be happy.

Edit: Ah, it doesn't mention no adapter not being included. Nevermind.

I can see them getting rid of earbuds, but not at least a basic charger. I can't remember the last time I used the earbuds I received with a phone. I think it was an HTC One?

What a joke, they'll just sell us an empty box next and the idiotic isheep will still probably buy it

couldn't care less, all earbuds that I've ever gotten from phones went straight to the rubbish bin because thats where they belong. Headphones or bust

I wasn't talking about the headphones, I was talking about the charger.

I dont think anyone really cares about the earbuds

I don’t think many people care about the charger either? Mine all stay in the boxes and I keep using the existing ones.

The Pro's come with the fast charger (as of last year) so I want a fast charger?

Who still uses those pathetic 5w garbo chargers?
