Which iPhone 14 will you get?

Had every iPhone on release day and this is by far the most disappointed I’ve been with an upgrade. 14 Pro Max from a 13 Pro Max and I’m not that pleased.

- Battery life seems far worse
- FaceID has an annoying delay before scanning when using Apple Pay and other functions other than unlocking the phone.
- Camera focus speed is pretty **** poor compared to the 13. Scanning QR codes seems so much more awkward with this camera system

If I hadn’t given my 13 to my girlfriend, I’d be taking this back tbh
Did you transfer or set up as new?

I tend to upgrade annually and always set up as new (part of the new phone excitement is setting everything up again as there are often new settings that I like to know are there) and don’t have any of the above problems. My battery is much better than my outgoing 13PM.

I upgrade every year as well, always have. I always do it from backup as well and never had any issues, even with the transfer.

I‘ve got a load of apps hidden and I removed a bunch of them today that I never use/no longer need. Spotlight is the way to go.

Even easier if you use a shortcut.

If it helps anyone, I’ve updated the shortcut to copy the link inside tags so it’s a straight paste into forums rather than pasting it into the image option.

That’s the one I was going to get but I got the cheaper previous generation one. The way I was looking at it was that the devices will be charging over night so won’t matter if it’s 7.5w or 15w wireless.

Anyone else finding the AOD weird :p I'm used to glancing at my phone and if the screens on normally a notification/message has just come through.

I'm constantly thinking I have friends atm :D

Ahh okay. I was only bothered about fast charging the watch really as I wear that overnight.

I’m used to it really coming from years of android phones with it. But the iPhone implementation is far superior, I love it.

Coming from a Samsung I’m used to the AoD always being on, so when I wake up before my alarm I can glance at the screen to check the time. However, the iPhone screen is blank unless I reach over to tap it or when DnD mode turns off.

A little annoyance.

Yep on day one I wasn't used to it at all, I kept trying to turn the screen off before realising it has AOD!

I see a lot of comparisons to how quickly other phones charge based on the number of watts they can draw.

My question is, does the number of watts actually matter?

My view is that it doesn’t, it’s a very blunt measure that fails to consider power consumption.

What matters is how much usage time you get for how long it’s plugged in for, however I get that is pretty subjective.

Seems it's just regular 14 that got a slight bump since the 13 Pro Max is already 27W is it not?
Oh **** yeah you are right, the pro max has stayed the same! apple's 20w chargers already becoming a little pointless then...

Indeed. And don't forget the battery capacity as well.
I can charge my 13 PM pretty much as quick as I could charge my old Samsung (45W) because the total amount of battery being charged is smaller.
And as you pointed out, for me, the 13 PM has an effortless 2 day battery compared to said Samsung which may have been 1-1.5 days - I know which one I'd prefer.

Yeah. I tend to wireless charge mine at my desk anyway so wired charging speeds are largely irrelevant for my own needs. But if I need to fast charge I'll plug into my MacBook Pro charger.

I’d argue that the need for fast charging for the vast majority of people is sort of irrelevant anyway. It seems to be those who live a more unorganised/chaotic life that seem to benefit from it.

‘Isn’t this fast charging great? - said the person who spends at least 6 hours a day within a meter of a plug socket’.
