I've just done a quick search on reviews, read the first two I found and they both say it's great for games but pretty average for anything else. They both agree that the camera is a disappointment and that the under screen camera suffers from a lack of light, being described as 'average' and 'mediocre at best'.

It seems that it might get two years of software updates (if you're lucky).

I don't think Apple have anything to be embarrassed about.

Don't even start me on a phone having a fan.
I completely agree, but the rest of the engineering that has gone into that should be where the handset is. Instead we're allegedly going thinner. I don't want thinner. I want a useable, large screen sized phone that is a slab of technology - not a pixel 9 pro clone.

This embarrasses apple. While i'm not a fan of the aesthethtics, the fact that red dragon has eliminated the notch and eliminated the hole punch camera entirely while without sacrificing photo quality is something Apple should have created. If I wasn't so heavily bought into the apple ecosystem right now, I'd pick this up.

it stuns me that in 2025 apple is so far behind android phones without a foldable, and now with a design that is left in the dust by the likes of red dragon and oneplus.
Where are they putting the sensors for proper face ID?

Also, foldable phones are overpriced e-waste. The concept is great, but the tech and pricing is not there.

In truth, I would rather (given my homunculous hands) that they just make the iPad mini a fully featured phone. I will say that as an owner of the surface duo, I loved the hinge book design and feel apple should emulate.

The Surface Duo was a much better design, and maintains a glass screen over plastic. I think it failed largely due to poor software adoption, which Apple would do better at.

There are a few things that do frustrate me a little about Apple though, especially with their latest AI update.

One example is my Samsung A34 work phone, which despite being a lower-end model, boasts a surprising number of AI features, such as image object removal or removing a person from a photo etc. Apple could have easily implemented that feature to some of their older phones, but instead they choose to limit and sell it with the 15 Pro and above models with Apple intelligence.

Without checking I can't be sure, Googles AI approach is very much cloud-based first, while Apple's is very much on device first. That be the reason why.

well that makes sense - google is very much intent on data aggregation to sell, whereas apple CLAIMS (key word) to be privacy focused. Personally I'd rather have a handset that's less of a smartphone and more of just a phone.

Just retired my 8 plus, had it from new & still on it's original battery at 96% health guess slow charging helps. Replaced it with the 16 Pro & liking it so far apart from getting used to not having a home button

I know it's a little thing, but the thing that bummed me out the most when i unboxed my 15 pro max was the loss of the physical phone lock switch on the side.

So my little cousin just got one of these, it's currently stuck on the 'hello screen' and getting very warm. Tried to reset with the up, down and right button but just does the same on reboot.

Any tips? Or does it need sent back?

Have you tried connecting it to a PC/mac and restoring to factory?

So reading the last few pages the general concensus is that these are pretty good if coming from an older model. Does that seem accurate?

I'm looking to update as my 11 pro (2nd battery replacement and the official battery case) is struggling to make it through the day. Some more demanding apps are stuttering and the camera is starting to look a bit basic compared to pics taken by friends and family.

The question is what to upgrade to? I'm working in the EU and the refurb market is extortionate here so the options are:

A UK refurbished 15 pro for ~£550, but gambling on getting a decent handset first time as delivery to the UK, then overseas and through customs would mean I'd miss any return window if there were a problem. Although this could be mitigated with a friend in the UK quality checking the phone for me.

Or

A locally bought 16 pro for €1199. I can claim the VAT back so this works out at ~£810. However, unsure if the warranty would be void when I move back to the UK next year.

What would you recommend?
