Do you reckon they'll release a iPhone 16 mini at some point, or another better SE?
I think I've come to a point with my pro max where I spend way too much time on it during leisure hours because of how nice the screen is :D

I am sure I spent a lot less time on phones when they were the size of the iPhone 4, 5S etc..

Rumored a new SE4 will be out early next year, although supposedly it'll be a 6/6.1" display rather than a smaller display of past SE's and Mini's.
Also rumored to be the first to include Apple's own 5G modem, so you may want to wait for reviews given the delays and issues Apple have had with it.

Made the leap from the XR to the 16 Pro and loving it. So much more capable in every way. Would have had the 16 but the higher refresh rate of the Pro was enough of an improvement for me to make it worth it. So nice to use the smooth interface.

Photography is obviously really good but a bit disappointed by some of the lower light shots, I’ve seen better on older iPhones (e.g. 13). Not sure why yet.

Loading 18.2 now. Looks like a bug was fixed around night shots/long exposure shots on Pro models. Perhaps that was my issue - will try it out later.

Has anyone noticed how these Screens now scratch so easily? They also have a slightly different tacky feel compared to my previous iPhone 14.

I got a scratch on mine within a few weeks and I have no idea how. Quite deep to the point you can feel it with your nail clearly.

I think they have massively sacrificed hardness to make the glass less brittle personally.

Edit: after some brief googling there are a lot of people saying the same thing.

I have been using screen protectors on all my iPhones since the 6S generation for this very reason. No matter how tough they say the screens are, or how careful you are, they will scratch. These are usually micro scratches which are only visible under direct lighting when the screen is off, so it’s possible many won’t notice them unless they looked. I suspect these are scratches in the oleophobic coating rather than the glass itself.

Get a good quality tempered glass screen protector and apply it with care, you won’t even notice it’s on.

I have looked after it to but have picked up numerous small scratches “Swirls” thankfully only visible under bright light with the screen off.

It’s killed my OCD on such a new to me device.

Yeah I think I might go down the Screen Protector route, annoyed at myself for not doing this day one!

My next new iPhone will be completely covered from day 1 :D

Random question. If I get an iPhone 16 on finance can I pay it back early or is there an early repayment fee?

You can pay it back early and I see no mention of an early repayment fee in my credit agreement.

Does anyone have any thoughts on my situation?

I have the 14 Pro Max and my battery has really degenerated over the last few months to the point that its quite noticeable. The phone is two years old. I had no real thoughts of upgrading.

I live in a rural area so I have no Apple store or authorised repairer I can take it to for a change of battery. I could do it through my provider but i would have to send it away and therefore have no phone for the duration of this happening.

I can swap out the phone and get the 16 Pro Max for little to no additional outlay but obviously that would tie me into a new contract and Im not sure there is enough additional functionality to warrant doing that. I could just muddle through with a phone with a crap battery.

Half of me thinks I should just upgrade and get the 16 but I know if i do the next iteration will probably have some massive breakthrough feature that Id really want! I equally appreciate that it doesnt tend to work like that any more with the phone and small incremental upgrades are far more likely. Really not sure where to go with it.

Perhaps plan to get it done during your next trip into a town/city with an Apple Store. They are pretty efficient with changing batteries. You would need to book a slot in advance as soon as you know when you will be travelling to be sure you can get it done on the day. Until then, muddle through with your current battery if you can. You could save a little more power by disabling the always on display until you get the new battery.

If you were not planning on upgrading (had it not been for the battery), I would hold off. The 14 Pro Max is still an excellent phone. Changes to the Pro Max model next year are of course going to be incremental.

I agree with the above, stay with your 14 pro max until iphone 17 at the very least. Swapping the battery would be the best option imo, if and when it's possible for you to do so.

Yeah I think you are both right. There wasnt really anything about the 16 that made me want to upgrade but then I cant remember the last time anything grabbed me about a new phone. Switching to the bigger Pro Max is that last thing that made a real difference, the phones themselves all feel pretty standard now.

As its already been mentioned, best option is to swap the battery unless you really fancy the new features in the 16

Even if there’s not a shop nearby, you can always plan to do it when you do next go past an apple store and get it swapped there

This embarrasses apple. While i'm not a fan of the aesthethtics, the fact that red dragon has eliminated the notch and eliminated the hole punch camera entirely while without sacrificing photo quality is something Apple should have created. If I wasn't so heavily bought into the apple ecosystem right now, I'd pick this up.

it stuns me that in 2025 apple is so far behind android phones without a foldable, and now with a design that is left in the dust by the likes of red dragon and oneplus.
