***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Slightly off-topic from Nexus 4 deliveries, but worth pointing out an irony of timing today. And while some debate the cost/benefit of no LTE with LTE enabled smartphones and hoping to get wireless internet speeds of say 15-20 mbps on LTE/4G, it is ironic that Google is already leap-frogging this tech in the home with Google Fibre at 1 GB speeds up and down! Makes wireless speeds seem pitiful, even with 4G! Talk about a gap in wireless with wired! Yes, Google Fibre arriving today in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. Could just as easily have been some place in the Midlands, UK. We are just at the dawn of what wireless tech can become really. But that is the beauty and the frustration of technology.

it all depends on personal usgae. For me i only store Music, About 6GB at the moment and thats it.

I have no interest in watching films on a phone.

Id be perfectly happy using Google music as a cloud streamer and not storing any music at all. if im honest but i dont have unlimited internet so its a no go for me

It's a phone not a laptop.

That's just a stupid comparison.

16GB isn't enough for a lot of people to store what they normally on their phone. I, for example, use my phone as my only portable music player, and I like to have access to my whole library. It's not huge, at around 12GB, but that would be enough to fill the 16GB nearly on it's own!

Just because you don't use your phone for things which require a lot of storage space, doesn't mean that everyone else doesn't! It's not an unreasonable idea, and it's certainly not uncommon! With the amount that current phones can do, why not make the most of them, which you can't do with only 16GBs.

very glad i didnt let te Onex go before i got the Nexus.

I have now decided 8GB model is not enough, Ive got an 8GB on order do you think it would be naughty of me tos ell this on the bay as its sold out now? Will it even be worth my time in regards to 10% selling fees

But why would you possibly need to carry your whole library? You couldnt listen to that much music if you had it on a whole 24 hours so why the need? :/

I would say 16gb is plenty for most discerning users, and 8gig enough for the average joe. Only the odd few that feel the need for more.

Seems to have been very poorly managed and underwhelming product launch...

  • No news of when it will launch until it does, only rumour.
  • Emails going out saying it had launched when it was already gone ages ago.
  • Orders being accepted (sometimes multiple times) without confirmation
  • Those that were lucky enough to get an order through seem to have paid £9.99 for three day delivery with conflicting info of what stage their order is at or when it will arrive! Feels like a pre-order in itself.
  • No reversion to pre-order process after selling out so people can get an order in and wait in a 'queue'.

I got to the wallet error stage this morning twice around 08:15 before giving up and going to work.

Google do some great things but it feels like they are very amateurish business wise sometimes, and definitely lacking at actually selling things! Apple mange significant demand (no doubt far higher than this) in vastly more countries simultaneously at launch and manages fine.

Selling out is one thing, having a terrible ordering experience on a site littered with errors and not knowing anything with regards to incoming stock or allowing pre-orders is pretty shabby.

To me, they have just made a half-bottomed attempt at jury rigging an app store for physical products. The whole thing cant cope with heavy orders of things that have limited stock.

Bang on, Exactly what I was thinking. I did not enjoy buying a new phone as much as I Should have done. And am still not enjoying it. Totally in the dark.

I think it's more the Wallet side of things which failed. The actual store was loading reasonably okay for me, but when it came to Wallet loading up etc it was just useless.

Now you're just being silly

Yes, I was. :p

Is the following really too much to ask for?

For someone posting a simple comment on a forum, possibly yes. You've said yourself it take a few minutes, most people won't spend even a few minutes for a simple post on a forum.

So essentially you are telling me that you rather have the sort of info. by the guy comparing it to the iphone 5 rather than the info. that I provide for battery life?

No, I don't believe I've said that at any point. But tbh, I wouldn't be all that grateful for a post with all the info in that your asking, as I've said before, it's pointless as it wont mean anything to me when I have my device. You take general feeling from a broad spectrum of people to get a better idea.

The Desire HD was a good example. I got pretty good life from mine, but generally it was felt to have terrible battery life. It would be silly me telling someone (back then) to buy it because I got 16 hours, with 35 minute talk time, 15 text messages, screen on 40%, no WiFi at all and 100 meg of data used, because there's a really high chance if they did the same, there battery would be dead after 12 hours.

The very next day I might have almost identical use and the battery needing a charge at 14 hours. It's just not that precise that that much detail is needed.

I totally agree screen on time should always be quoted. That will give a general idea of total usage, but asking for every last bit just isn't needed... in my opinion.

I dunno, for me it put the completely wrong delivery address, billing was fine.

wait what? So the N4 not supporting AOSP means we can't flash custom roms onto it? (Sense v4 if they make one)

Isn't that one of the main points of the Android platform, customisation?

Not supported at the moment but the reports seem to think its only a licence issue so fingers crossed.

I completely agree with Nexus here, the amount of reviews that are ridiculously vague on battery life is just incredible.

Yes, because it's so dependant on your personal setup of your phone, your area, your network, your signal strength. I think it would be silly for a review site to try and be specific about it, they would take so much flak as 90% of people will get different life.

Take the S3. The longest I've lasted is around 28 hours. Some people are posting close to 2 days. They claim to have 5 hours screen on, call time, texts etc. It means nothing to me. It does tell me the S3 has a pretty good battery though. I can't replicate it though. I would be annoyed if I bought a phone based on a review saying I could get 2 days from my battery to then find on average I get 18...

If someone says 'I'm normally at 23% at the end of the day, with this phone I'm at 45% at the end of the day', to me that's much more useful than spouting meaningless stats.

The battery life is one of the most important factors of a phone for many people, especially one with a fixed battery. It's the thing that gets talked about the most, by far.

Yes, mainly because people are usually arguing, because no-one gets the same results from similar usage.

This is how you express battery life opinion on your site:

That barely even says how good it is, or what you did.

Surely you agree a battery doesn't really show it's strength until around 10 days? Most of my reviews I've used the phone for just 3 or 4 days. I'm not lucky enough to get them in advance, I buy them on release day and if I don't get a review out their quick, I miss out on hits/views.

Because of this, and because of the reasons in the above post, yes, I try and be vague bit give my feeling of the battery.

To me the one you posted is relatively clear, the battery is good enough to cope through even heavy days.
