***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

I know the phone isn't out yet... but what do you think the battery life will be? Its got a bigger battery than the last nexus phone. I've read somewhere that the battery life is ~10 hours...which doesnt really mean much to me compared to other phones!

In theory the phone battery life should be very good!

Most power efficient chip there is.

Very power efficient display, as good as the X/XL screen etc. will have to wait and see.......

2100mAh battery

Should be better than the GS 3 and one S/XL, not as good as the note II.

The LG optimus G battery life seems pretty good, however, the LG software seems to be optimised very poorly (this plays a HUGE part in battery as well).

If the battery is crap, then it is simply due to crap software optimisation with the hardware.

Regarding storage at the end of the day, the only people who probably care about storage are the likes of some of us, as backups etc. take up a fair bit and for some reason people like to have everything thrown on. But I would say 16GB is plenty for 80% of people.

It is hugely blown out of proportion though. I have over a 1000 thousand photos including 1080P videos and slow motion recordings along with wallpapers, icons, game emulator files for the N64 and gensoid etc. and still have like 3GB free and I have over 80 apps installed including games like zombie land, dead space, dead trigger and about several other games like where's my perry and still have 1.35GB left. I consider myself to be quite a heavy user for storage so am pretty sure that average joes wouldn't even use more than 5GB

All my photos/videos are backed up each day so I could easily free up 6GB if I wanted and then fit a few TV episodes or a film or 2 on.

I just don't see why people feel the need to throw on 10GB+ music collection when chances are, they only listen to like a few songs each day.......

Organisation is the key here!

Yes 32GB would have been ideal, but at the end of day, look at the price......

EDIT:

also you can be guaranteed that google won't do much advertising at all. They never do! Their biggest mistake. They need to pimp this phone like Samsung do with theirs.

I have over 14GB worth of music which i would want on my phone at all times.

Sure i could put less on there, but that makes it less convenient, and the whole point of having a smartphone in the first place is convenience. No need to have a camera when you have one in your phone, no need for an MP3 player when you have one in your phone etc.

I have a 32GB iPhone and regularly have to delete things from it to free up space, there is no feasible alternative to physical storage for me at the moment because for half of the year i live in North Wales when i'm not in Uni and 3G is spotty at best.

I think some people on here live in a city bubble and don't realise that there are a lot of phone owners with poor coverage who rely on physical phone storage because the networks just aren't 100% yet, and probably won't be for a long time.

That's not even considering the data allowance issue a lot of people have.

If you must have that much music on your phone and your not willing to either use a usb storage option or manage ~4GB of music on your device using the easy to use google music over your home wifi connection then your probably right this is not the phone for you.

That particular use case, one would choose the Galaxy S III. 64GB + 16 GB/32 GB = win.

Thank God I don't need that much music on my phone :)

In other news, it's now only two weeks until we can get the phone, yay.

I bet you half the people who say they need like 64GB of storage and do use it up don't actually realise just how much they actually only use :p

A bit like me with my hard drives in my PC, got over 500 films, 5 TV shows, 30+ games, 10GB+ of wallpapers, consuming in total about 4TB, however, have I watched every film more than a few times, played all the games or have any intention of playing certain games again etc.......no, could I free up half of that space.......yes, do I want to.....no :p :D

Or the htc one x.

All my music I stream, so that's not a problem, but I love storing all my photos and videos on my device and going through them. Quite a fanatic for that. That and massive games. Nandroid and titanium backup also don't help.

16gb is what I currently have the the Gnex, and I have survived, do I guess I will do the same for the nex4, but it would be nice for 32gb as an option, as isn't that what android is fundamentally about? Options.

It is and you have the option to get any one of a whole number of devices if this isn't the one for you! :)

edit: I don't really know why we are still discussing storage here.. it is what it is, would it have been nice to have an SDcard slot or a 32GB option? Sure. But... THAT PRICE!

Quite true, but the nexus devices is why I swapped to Android, nothing else, maybe bar the htc butterfly j tickles my fancy. Well guess you can't have your cake and eat it. Esp at that price! But I am happy. And cannot wait.

The webOS fanboy inside me has me jumping with joy over the nexus touchstone.

The storage on this phone is what it is, if you need more than 16GB of storage and want an Android device luckily for you, you have other options.

It's not about what i 'must' have, i would simply find it annoying to have to pick and choose music all the time.

With a 16GB phone you'd be looking at 14GB of actual usable space. Even if i halved my music collection i'd still only have 7GB left over for apps, photos, videos, and any other miscellaneous things. Not exactly a ton of space.

When the actual manufacturing price difference between 16GB of storage and 32GB is less than $5 it seems silly not to even offer a 32GB option. They do it for their Nexus 10 tablet, so why not for a device which you'll have with you much more often and as a result probably use a lot more ?

And a USB storage device ? Talk about a step backwards.

i have a gnexus and 4 batteries (dont) ask, chargers and docks cases and so on gonna give to my mrs as selling it will be a killer with this new price of the nexus4

at least you have someone to give it to :)
mine other half has lumia 800 since lunch and she loves it and doesnt want new mobile:)

as few on here, Im torn between 8 and 16gb...

Go for 8gb, and just cut down on that feeling of 'needing' everything.
Set up a few playlists that change every few days that sync at home on wifi.
And delete shows/movies after watching!

I even dont watch videos on my mobile :) got used to watch it on 30" PC screen or 46" TV in blurays quality ;)

MIght have a game that takes 1.5gb now and then and some mp3 tracks and thats it.
Rest is photos and videos taken with mobile.

need to think about those playlists and syncing them over wifi..can poweramp do it ?

but this phone doesnt have extendable memory. This is one gripe people had about note 2 i.e. 32/64GB version are not out yet. But at least with note 2, you can have a sd card.

will 16GB be enough on Nexus? cheap phone, may consider buying this instead of note 2

As I and others have said before, unless you plan on just throwing your entire/most of your music collection on and keeping all the backups on the phone (only applicable if you root and flash custom ROMs) then 16GB isn't a problem.

I think, say, 8GB of music is a realistic expectation. Then you have those odd people who insist on .flac files, but they just shoot themselves in the foot. :p

So then you have a load of games installed, some of them total well over 500MB, for example. A good few 1080p videos of some length and then you're starting to run a bit low. Bear in mind 16GB isn't actually 16GB either, it's probably closer to 13?

I don't think it's a 'problem', it can easily be solved/circumvented, but it's far from ideal for some people.

8GB?!?!

I have over 350 tracks and that is 2GB, which includes a couple of albums, which are FLAC, large albums (movie themes etc. :p) and this is the highest quality MP3 too!

Indeed! I can't tell the difference between FLAC and high quality MP3, would need actual proper high end audio equipment to notice the difference, not on a mobile........ :p

Yup 10GB on the S and 2.21GB for apps, although nexus device will probably have a bit more...

There is a very good chance that google/LG will release a 32GB model in a few months time, but then will have people saying "not enough! Need 64GB option!!!" :p

Just get the 8Gb version and an OTG cable, then stick Movies etc... on a USB flash drive! :)

Yup, very easy solution and cheap to!

For me, i'd 'like' 32gb, but i realistically 'need' 16gb

I'll be buying a 16gb, but if a 32gb does come out then i'll probably 'upgrade'

I think a lot of people just like the safety net of additional space.
