***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

True as it may be, you are paying 35% extra to get this phone a little earlier than others. Which will in effect sound like a big waste of money to a lot of sensible folks out there.

You know, having a lot of disposable income doesn't mean that you cannot be financially savvy.

It's all relative and you can't judge.

I've broken my phone and my initial idea was to buy a crappy PAYG phone until the N4 came back in stock with Google. However the cheapest one I could get was Orange's Sydney for £29.99 + £10 topup, so £40.

For the extra £60 I decided that I'd rather have a good phone over Christmas and not have the stress of waiting for Google to restock. And considering that could easily be January, £30pm for the privilege of that isn't a lot at all.

You've responded to rogueblade who was baffled that people are willing to pay £100 extra for the phone to get it now, rather than wait a couple of weeks when the phone is back in stock at Play Store, saying that you only paid £57 or £7 extra, which is totally incorrect or irrelevant to his argument.

You having sold your current handset has no bearing on the extra cost of purchasing the Nexus 4 early so I don't know why you brought that up or included it in your calculations. Whilst it's your personal cost of making an upgrade, it doesn't change the fact that you could have saved a bit of cash by waiting for Google's stock. Whether you value it at the higher cost or not is a subject for another discussion.

But let's not make a big deal out of it and get back on topic.

You're right I could have saved £15 (without quidco) and ignoring my phone sale but will be better off if it tracks than purchasing outright. Anyway like you said lets get back on topic.

Just arrived :) Handling by TNT doesn't look too great though. The outer bubble envelope has been bashed/rubbed so hard the corner of the nexus box has burst through the package and the is damaged itself. Can't check the phone just now as the gf will throw a fit if i open it first.

Just started playing around with this phone, I'm wondering though, while using 'Google Now' I should just be able to say "Google" and that should bring up a voice search, right? but it doesn't, nothing happens. It works fine if I pressed the microphone icon but I've seen vids of people just saying "Google" and it responding to that? Am I doing something wrong?

I feel your pain, I was about to do the move myself, but my SGS is still going so-so and should get me through until Google gets more phones in stock.

You don't have to spend your time using an old HTC Desire with stock original ROM and very early Android on it.

Also, getting the phone a month+ earlier is worth it to some, especilaly if they can afford it. Just think how much iphone 5 and other SGS3 early adopters are still paying per month ;)

See I'm back on the fence, cannot be bothered to wait, plus my parents will pay £150 as an xmas gift, so it will only cost me just over £200.

You missed out the 'for a healthy profit' part :p

All jokes aside nice to see people sharing the love :)
Someone offered a healthy sum more but the OcUK'er approached me first. Bros before hoes.

:p

Don't have any more per chance?

I've been soldiering on with my old battered Nokia 6300 for the last 3 weeks :(

Could be a while longer yet too!
Sorry buddy, the other is taken pending payment and there a few others waiting in line if it drops through. This one is going for a lot more than I expected.

I'm very savvy. So much so I purchased and sold at a profit. Its not about paying over the odds. Its about paying a certain price for a certain item. And £100 is nothing to some to get the phone now. At this rate it will be mid Jan before people get a wiff.

Finally at about 4:30pm....

Great news! Your order on Google Play has shipped. Track the status of your package TNT #XYZ. Note that it may take 24 hours for your tracking number to return any information.

Not bad minus shipping charge for the week or two wait. Probably best buy since my Intel C2Q6600.

I've just got off the phone with O2 regarding an impending upgrade to my contract. What would you gents say to the N4 at £90 upfront (I swear it was £60 yesterday on CPW, but it's changed!), then £26pm, unlimited minutes and texts, and 2Gb data? By my maths it still works our significantly more than buying the handset alone and a GiffGaff SIM, but it's also just about the best offer I've seen for it currently, plus I get a discount on my internet by staying with my current provider.

Crucially, though, it's also £90 more upfront than the S3 on a very similar monthly deal, and the issues of the glass back cracking (Google it and see!) continue to worry me a little. I'm leaning towards the S3, though I'll have to pay £5pm more for my internet for the next 9 months, making it still a net £45 cheaper than the N4. What's the best option here? I'm considering trying out the N4, then trying to trade it for an S3 if I don't like it.

:edit:

Aha, just realised if I get my current network to price-match the S3 deal, I don't lose the discount on my broadband, making it a full £90 cheaper than the Nexus 4 deal. I'm not sure the N4 can command £90 more than the S3, but I'd be interested to any thoughts to the contrary.

Only works if the language is set to US English
