***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Right,

Problem solved!!!
It was the TWRP backups hidden deep in mnt/shell/emulated/TWRP/Backups
Used Rom Toolbox Pro to get at them. Strange thing is i can delete the contents of the backup folders in that above folder but not backup folders themselves (2013-02-06--22-46-37 etc)

Crap thing is everytime i do a nandroid backup, it keeps a copy on there and a copy on the SD card (which i move to PC and then delete). So now everytime i do a nandroid backup i will have to delete from 2 locations.

Try backing up with ClockWorkMod instead, it only creates 1 backup

Ok this may be a bit of a silly question, but are roms legal and what exactly do they do ?

In this case a ROM is basically a version of Android. The official ROM is the official stock Android that you get with Nexus devices. Samsung Android ROM's are what you get with Samsung phones etc. Then there is open source community who build custom ROM's. These can vary from just other ROM's with programs/apps added or deleted to heavily modified versions of the OS running on phones that it was never designed for.

Legal- yes, but once you root your warranty is technically void. But just flash on the official the ROM and it's valid.

What about game emulators ?

Stab in the dark but I assume emulators are legal, but the games themselves are illegal copies. Just like music players are legal, but it's not legal to play music that you illegally downloaded.

They're just apps you install, nothing special needed there.

Are they legal? As far as I know. Pirated game ROMs? Not so much ;)

has PA improved anything else other than display colours? Those that have updated to latest version has it improved anything else for you?

How can I organise my "all apps" menu? Ideally I'd like them to be in folders or tabs.

Use Nova launcher prime. Excellent launcher.

Does restoring from a nandroid actually return your phone to how it was? Or do you still end up with stuff left over in the SD directory that was in there before you rrsyored ?

set it to phablet mode (this only effects the homescreen and menu's) no apps are effected, and see if you prefer the smaller bars, if you don't then turn it back to stock.

next press the power button and click enable extended mode, see if you like the phone with no bars (swipe from bottom to get pie controls), if you don't then press power and disable the mode.

next you can open an app, lets say youtube, now press the 3rd button (multi task button) which opens up all open apps, click and hold on the youtube window, you shall see a pop up menu appear, click on Hybrid Properties, this is how you change a single app to a different mode, experiment and se if you like any of the other modes, if you don;t select the default one.

for example, i could have my phone in phablet mode, youtube in tablet mode and gmail in phone mode, etc. the options are endless, different modes change the way the app is presented and even totally change the app so it's easier to use.

ok so I've got PA installed, I have set the UI to phone and phablet to test and I still get the funky but too small settings menu, is there a way to make that just the normal settings?

It'll restore all the system parts to exactly how they were before, doesn't have anything to do with the storage parts of the phone as far as I know.

I have a custom rom installed along with nova.

after seeing all the comments about the PA rom and the colours being so much better, what is the best way to put on another rom while keeping everything like nova, wallpaper, downloaded apps exactly the same? is it even possible?

this is my 1st time mucking about with roms etc, i tried using titanium back up and backing up on cwm but somehow lost 4 gig of my memory so had to go back to stock wiping everything.

any help much appreciated

Find "settings" in the list of apps & set it to 360p & increase the DPI.

Download the zip > put it on phone > clear cache & dalvik cache > install zip.
