yeah it must be a wake lock :) tbh just install PA and see what happens :) dont bother with a new kernel keep the one that comes with PA
Worth noting that the kernel that comes with PA is just the stock kernel. It's included in CM, AOKP, etc...basically every single AOSP-based ROM out there that doesn't state otherwise.

Another one in relation to this is to turn off some of the unnecessary location options. Settings > Google > Location Settings, then you can pretty much disable everything there.

Any ideas if Google will ever fix it? Or is it not a bug but just an necessary thing to run to keep things like Google Now up-to-date?

I must admit, battery has been a bit disappointing on mine, and I've installed Paranoid Android. I took mine off charge, turned Wifi on, and within about 10 minutes had lost over 10% of the battery.

mines stock and I can get 2 days with 4-5 hours on screen usage or 3 days passive.

AFAIK, it is to do with the S4 pro chipset and drivers as apparently the DNA, LG optimus also suffer the same (not as bad though), it will be fixed/improved at some point as the S4 pro is still very new tech. thus the driver optimisation etc. needs to be fine tuned. As to when it will be fixed...... no idea :p It is quite disappointing though that google haven't got some more updates out to try and fix the problems though :(

Thats fine, if thats the case then it makes sense to use the bug fixes in other kernals. Guess Ill try Franco or more likely just put on the PA rom and use its kernal.
