***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Right then, had my Nexus 4 for some time now and am on stock 4.3 and i'm getting the itch to put a ROM on.

I'm a bit of a lazy bum, what's generally considered to be the best ROM for this phone?

i dont think 02 are good these days, i moved to virgin, after 3 months , rang up to cancel, and got offered 1200 mins, unlimted data and text for £8 a month on a rolling monthly contract , makes giffgaff look a bit poor.

I received a Virgin mobile information leaflet to my parents address, the deal seemed too good to be true, unlimited everything for £26 with a cheap phone, but when checking their coverage (all i really wanted was the sim card) they don't cover N.Ireland at all, which is a shame.

On another note, Ive seen people mention changing the kernel can improve screen quality, I'm still getting battery drain on my N4, i've just taken off the charge, and messaging services is using 10x more battery than the wifi tethering and its been on all morning.

So I'm thinking a nice ROM and kernel would be my best option for now, any recommendations?

Cyanogen 10.1 is generally regarded as the most mature of the custom roms, I tried paranoid android but found battery life seemed to be affected. Been on this Rom for a while now, they took pa's pie menu and adopted it so you free up the bottom menu portion of the screen, couldn't go back to stock now. Kernel, I use Franco milestone 3 and happy with that.

Were doing wrong,I have no plans to put pa on again

That was my experience.

I also didn't like halo and how you had to frig the status bar if you wanted the pie controls.

I love AOKP's customisable navring shortcuts so much I haven't even bothered with any other ROMS.

Basically the "drag up from the home button for Google Now" on stock Android, you can customise those to launch apps, do certain functions, add up to 5 (or is it 7?) total shortcuts, have separate shortcuts for when you drag and hold on an icon.

Being able to turn my screen off by simply swiping straight upwards sounds like a trivial thing, but that alone makes me stick with AOKP.

PA without a doubt. Its solid and the battery life is very good. Auto brightness customisation is the best feature which saves the battery.

Touch control allows rooted devices to do this, swipe to turn off, swipe to turn on or double tap. Useful for bike holders with no side access

IS THIS using 4.3 yet? i have cm 10.1.2 i think, which is on android 4.2 and i have the issue where google is constantly trying to update but failing using up loads of data so want to stop this, however if cyanmod most stable version is still on 4.2 then i'm stuck

ok thanks. do you know how to stop the device constantly trying to update to 4.3? it uses like 4gb of data a month trying to update.

if updating through the phone to 10.1.3 RC2, will this keep any of my data i've put in e.g app settings etc?

Has anyone ever noticed this before with their N4:

Send yourself a text message, and when youve pressed "send" put your ear near the N4's speaker. On mine i can hear quiet hissing from the speaker, followed by a slight 'blip'.
Does the same in whatsapp when pressing send too.

Anyone else get that?

I did think it was because i just flashed Franco in place of the stock AOKP kernel, but after reverting i get it with both.

Can you not set it to update over wi-fi only?
There is a fix that involves disabling a listener on a specific service, however i noticed if i did that it fixed the data issue but introduced an issue whereas the Google Service ate up a lot of battery life.:(

Currently using this rom and this kernel(use the r172 kernel as r175 doesn't boot).
The rom doesn't have as much customisation as something like CM but it's super fast and has awesome battery life.

If you want a CM rom I recommend this one with this kernel(make sure you use the JSS version).

Must be an android thing....asked a colleague to test with his HTC One, same "issue".

How much is delivery to the midlands on google's website?

Thinking about getting this or the ZTE Blade V and want to know the exact price difference.

I really wish there were some rubber nubbins on the back of this phone. I hate having to keep it in a case as it looks so nice but the glass back is just to slippery!
