***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Has anyone else had problems with the google now widget not showing cards? It just stops displaying cards for no reason on my n4 and you have to delete and re-place it to get it to work.

My 'returns' bag arrived this morning as the Mrs is not getting on with hers so have ordered a 5C for her.

She lasted a few days then it was back in the box waiting for the returns bag to arrive.

probably nothing to do with the phone, but she most likely had a preconceived notion that the iphone is best and no matter what phone irrespective of how easy or good it is in comparison was going to make her change her mind and that any other phone is just simple crap.

a lot of people do seem to be catching on though that android is just as good as iOS and the devices are a lot better in terms of value for money.

i mean had the nexus 4 had a better camera, i would say it beats the iphone hands down at everything

Yes the 16GB has completely sold out now, you can pick them up on ebay for £229.99 brand new, white or black, is it worth getting one of these or just waiting for the Nexus 5?

I think now mate I would wait...not long until they're announced and you could well be looking at another steal of a price if Google follow the policy for the Nexus 4...it may be a bit more expensive but hopefully it's offered around £300

Way to make a presumption

Some people just don't get on with Android devices, just like some people don't get on with Macs.

Agreed. Won't go into details, but on averages, they're most definitely even. I certainly hear more "I'm not sure whether to get another iPhone, I'm quite interested in *insert phone here*" than "iPhone is the best, everything else is ****".

You would say, but there are plenty who wouldn't. Nothing comes close to Safari on the Android side (part of the reason I'm moving back); performance is patchy and touch responsiveness is poor; the hardware used in many devices is often driven by pure numbers which only hamper the device rather than help it; the quality of the hardware isn't as good (frankly the only device that can roughly match the iPhone is the HTC One, though this isn't to say the N4 is bad by any means); some of the internal components are a little poor (crap speaker, so-so camera as you mentioned). Of course, the Android advantages are obvious: superior sharing integration; a wide variety of devices to choose from; bigger displays for those that want them; value for money; integration with Google services. Specifically for the N4, the notification light is nifty, the display is big, and the price is low. All of the above are among many, many others.

Not trying to make this an iOS vs Android discussion, however you can't make a sweeping statement that one device/platform is better "hands down" than another, because it's simply not true. Different tools for different people.

Back on topic, is it just me or has PA been more...buggy than usual? Things just seem to occasionally slow significantly.

Love the aosp browser and chrome on the nexus especially with paranoid android and adjusting the DPI so you get tabbed style browser..

IOS is good don't get me wrong.. But the browser on the nexus and android is more of a laptop / PC experience.. Flash player plugins etc.. All work cushty having access to the file system and root on android does it for me.. Way I see it is apple and iOS is for people who want it just to "work" and and android is more friendly towards the customiser and deep development.. Each to their own.. We love what we love..

Are you using third party kernels with the latest PA? 4.3 is still buggy on custom ROMs anyway so that is probably why.

Agreed, however Chrome just feels bloated (and the font boosting is ridiculous), AOSP browser is rather buggy (plenty of force crashes on multiple ROMs, weird bugs with multiple sites, having to press the Back button twice to go back etc). It's so frustrating because Google have everything they need to make a great browser - they could take the AOSP browser, patch some of the bugs and add some of the Chrome features (encrypted syncing etc.).

But aside from that, it comes down to what you prefer. After switching back and forth, there really isn't that much in it between iOS and Android.

Balb0wa, those pictures don't look too shabby! Not brilliant but OK at least.

I sort of agree with the browsers on android, they are all good in a few areas but shocking in most other areas :(

The only 3rd party browsers that I somewhat like are quick ics browser, dolphin, opera, xscope and firefox (purely for the addons, everything else about it isn't great imo)

The only browser that I find to be more or less perfect is sense browser, it has everything you could want in one package: thumb controls (modified too so they work better imo), flash, text reflow for both pinch to zoom and double tap (some browsers have text reflow, however they are broken in the sense, won't reflow the text when you zoom back out and I get error pages with opera :/), fastest and smoothest in my experience, neat UI, no text size problems like chrome & firefox! + google bookmark syncing

IMO safari isn't anything special either though.

not bad shots, the camera is ok, but its not very forgiving and as mentioned pretty bad in low light, TBH the SGS2 camera/video is way better and that phone is getting on a bit.

Hoping the N5 will have the well respected G2 camera

Oh no doubt that Safari isn't perfect - some form of text reflow would be nice just to reduce the constant scrolling (though of course the layout issues this can occasionally cause is going to be why they don't), however at least the basics work extremely well. The number of times where I have to double/triple/quadruple press the back button to go back a page is insane. If Google incorporated the Chrome syncing features in, fixed the bugs, and improved performance, they'd have a virtually perfect browser!

Yeah this has been my experience as well, pretty respectable shots in good light, just let down in low light.

Looks like a lovely day for a walk. :)
