Hot water and then Proraso (green).

Finally using the feather blades after 2 years. Seem fine to me and haven't once gone all slasher movie on my face. Putting it down to good technique.

I do that, but wondering if there's something that can soften the hairs even more so.
For ages I've just used Taylor of Old Bond St Sandalwood soap. Does the job great. One day for no reason I grabbed some of my wife's almond shower oil

(holy **** look at the price!)

and rubbed it into my stubble, and wow did it soften things up nicely. Maybe give something similar (but cheaper!) a go.

Completed my second shave with the Astra in a Futur clone. It was much smoother, went better. Then on the last stroke of my first pass, I took a bloody mole off! That was interesting, bleeding into my lather... Better buy a styptic stick.

What does everyone use preshave? I had a sample of something from Edwin Jagger that I liked but open to try stuff, anything with aloe is a win in my books as my skin loves that.

I rinse my face with hot water then apply Clarins Shave Oil and then my choice of cream/soap, I've also used King of Shaves oil as well

Holy crud :p Although, I've been using this moisturiser as of late: https://www.aesop.com/uk/p/skin/hydrate/lightweight-facial-hydrating-serum/?siteName=Aesop United Kingdom

Think I might give something similar a go, I've been using Taylors Sensitive Skin, although I have a couple of tubs of Sandalwood.

Might give that a go, cheers :)

50p Wilko own brand beard/shave oil. Made a huge difference to me compared to water alone, with regards to stopping tugging and consequently micro cuts.

Even better, I'll get some of that!

Paha, I’ve had my DE for what feels like the best part of a year and I’m not taking it into the shower. Sod that. I no longer catch myself anymore but I don’t fancy risking it.

I use L'Oreal Men Expert Barber Club Face wash really good stuff imo!

Also, the Feathers you sent me are simply a joy to use! I won't be using any other blade ever again. Easily the best shaves I have had even compared to my old favourite blade - the PolSilver Super Iridium. For some reason the Feather's don't even feel like they're even in my DE89 literally no pull - I'm guessing due to them being the sharpest blade available.

I'm tempted to put a Feather in my Fine Super Slant if I let the face grow a weeks worth and see how that is as that is some fearsome beast with the amount of torque and angle it puts on the blade!

Excellent, glad to hear they're going to good use! :D

Please excuse the double post. I invested in some pre-shave cream which came today, so tonight I gave it a go.

Warmish water over my face to soften up the hairs and then loaded some of this (quite a tiny amount) "Proraso Refreshing Pre Shave Cream" onto my face and rubbed into the stubble, it's definitely got a Menthol kick, wow. My eyes were gone bloodshot :p

Gave it a minute or so to soak in and then loaded up with shaving soap (Taylor of Old Bond St Sensitive stuff) on top. Wow. Effortless. The hairs were so much softer, my skin was far far far far far less irritated. Redness has gone down dramatically.

Very very happy :)

You can use the Proraso Pre-shave as a Post shave cream too! I have a jar of it - it's a great product.

TOBS is also great for that lather up.

For a change of pace, I recently invested in some barber shop grade shaving gel and been having a great experience with it and the Feathers in my DE89! :p;)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Elegance-Plus-Shaving-Earth-500ml/dp/B00K3Y3V0Y been doing pre-shave routine followed by line up with this stuff and its very slick and has great protection levels for multiple passes without reapplying.

I always follow up with face cleanser and moistruiser post-shave. I'm currently only one handed due to slicing my finger yesterday at work so I'm still pretty impressed with my shave from last night :p

I might begin experimenting with shaving creams, but I have two brand new tubs of Sandalwood and a tub in use of their sensitive skin stuff.

Had a shave with my shavette last night and about a week ago as well. Man is it satisfying to use. Very tricky and takes about twice as long as using DE (though this would speed up with more practice), but the feeling is so nice and there's just something great about the way it removes the stubble.

Very tricky in parts though, like going over the jaw line. And I'm not brave enough to even try ATG, not that I'm normally sensitive with ATG but the margin for error on your angle of approach is so small I don't trust myself yet.

Really want to try feathers but the cost is a bit much. My current 100pack of astra platinums was <10p/blade, I cant' see feathers anywhere for less than 35p/blade. Anyone seen cheaper?

I find a good whirl of the Alum Block with cold water works well as a post shave cleanser. It's a natural astringent and antiseptic :).
