***The Official Manly Shaving Thread***

Been thinking about a sharps bin. I partly moved to DE razors as it's greener than plastic disposables, so would like to recycle the blades. Seems like a bad idea to make people handle them though!

Put back in the paper/waxy wrapper they come in, snap in two and put into a disposable blade bank and bin the bank in recycle when full.

Going slightly off topic here, but what's the general consensus when it comes to shaving your chest? As I've got older I've started to notice an increase in hair, to the point now where I'm starting resemble a young Burt Reynolds. I know this is the "Manly" shaving thread, but are clean chests acceptable or should I maintain my rug?

I guess that's just personal preference. I don't shave my chest, I use a trimmer and just trim it down. If someone worked out, I imagine they would shave often.

I've never tried it but I dont see the problem with shaving your chest if that is what you want, just be careful not to shave your nips off.

Can be done but just use Nair or Veet :p

Use a comb as a guard and then trimming with dual edge makes short work of long/thick hair.

Alternatively barber's hair clippers with appropriate length guard on.

Any Palmolive fans here?

I always have few sticks in reserve and used one in this morning's shave. Cheap as chips (50p per stick), works better than many more expensive shaving soaps, lasts for ages and that classic, old-school Palmolive scent. Marvellous.

It isn't bad, I got a tube of the cream and it was pretty decent.....great for the price really.

Working my way through Trumpers Lime shaving cream tube, my current favourite as it goes really well with my Creed Virgin Island Water.

I've never tried the cream - I find that in general I get far better glide from soaps. Palmolive easily holds it's own against my other soaps, including Mitchel's Wool Fat, Phoenix & Beau, OSP etc etc.

Started off using Palmolive sticks as heard they were great value. I ended up buying about 20 as I heard a rumor they were ceasing production. No idea what the latest is on that. I haven't used on for ages. I used to 'draw' soap all over my face and then face-lather using a wet badger brush. Might give it another try soon.

I did the draw & face lather thing this morning. It's my "quick-shave" routine: two pass BBS and cleanup in under 5 mins.

I heard that Palmolive rumour too but I still see it in Tesco. Doesn't hurt to stock up though, "they don't eat anything" as my old man used to say.

The cream is good, like you say probably as good as most and the smell is rather nice too. I tend to like creams better, mainly for ease of use really.

Pamolive is nice and need to get more but i am still working through two sticks of arko.

The body shop shaving cream is very good also gives a nice slick lather and smells nice too.

BBS in 5 mins, teach me your ways. What razor are you using? One WTG and one ATG?

Lol. It's just practice.

Yes, one WTG and one ATG. I have many razors but I get on best with the mild-to-mid aggression types. This morning was my old 1940's flat-baseplate Tech and a Voskhod blade, my favourite combo for an easy, comfortable BBS.

I can get away with a one pass BBS (ATG) too without too much drama but I prefer two passes.
