*** THE OFFICIAL MAX PAYNE 3 THREAD ***

Finished this on Friday, I rather enjoyed it. It's nothing groundbreaking or revolutionary by any means and the atmosphere doesn't really compare to the previous MP games, but the visuals were superb, the gameplay was solid, it felt very polished and most of all, it was generally just good fun to play. Most games these days seem to think they need to cram in as much stuff as they can but in the case of MP3, it was refreshing to see a modern game go 'back to basics', so to speak.

If I'd paid full price on release I'd have perhaps been more disappointed with it, but for £15 I certainly won't complain. Some of the levels were beautifully designed too, just a shame they were often far too linear.

Also, no issue with load times at all here. Didn't even bother copying the game to my SSD as it loads near-instantly on my HDD.

Just completed this, thoughts below:

+Wonderful animations, the characters actually look lifelike in the mannerisms when having a drink etc
+Decent performance 60fps+
+Good voice acting
+Maintains the film noir style from the earlier games
+Some glorious set pieces especially with slow-mo dives through the air etc
+Good story and I liked the Brazillian setting
+Usual slick presentation as you'd expect from MP/R*

-Quite a short game, only 9hrs of which about 3hrs were probably cutscenes
-Cutscenes interrupt the game a lot, basically it goes CUTSCENE...OPEN DOOR...WISE CRACK....FIGHT...CUTSCENE...OPEN DOOR.... etc
-Weapons keep randomly switching away from what you have selected after cutscenes, it gets so annoying after a while to keep going from your rifle to pistol after going through a door
-Bullet time seems a bit overpowered, the game is a bit easy as you can headshot like four guys mid dive
-Although as mentioned the character animation is phenomenal, during cutscenes it can be a bit jerky, I think those sections must be 'recorded' at under 120fps.
-Textures are shoddy in some of the early levels, although much improved in the Favella.
-Feels like a bit of a Kane & Lynch 2 rip-off, from the character style, to the gore, to the 'film effects', to the visual style, to the airport showdown etc.

MaxPain 3 ?

Am i missing something ? i have sat through loads of cut seens only inerupted by awkward 3rd person bits now and again !! Is there a game hidden in there somewere ?? It looks very pretty but thank god it only me cost £7.50 !

I think your mistake was buying Max Pain 3. I played Max Payne 3 myself and enjoyed it.

Also, why do people think that they need to put a space in front of punctuation marks?

Sounds like someone needs to use a 360 pad.

Most people I talked to found it engaging and very hard to put down because of the cut scenes, there are a lot but I thought they were very well implemented.

Are you forgetting the chance he may not be sitting at a PC typing with a full keyboard?

you really should, sure the front end is heavier on the cutscenes but that's to establish the tone and characters, stick at it and you will be very impressed I guarantee.

Not really. I've typed with various devices in my time and never have I put a space before question or exclamation marks. Hell, most smartphones will automatically remove the space.

As for the game, there are a few moments where it's a few minutes of gameplay, followed by cutscene, followed by a few minutes more gameplay, with another cutscene, but past those bits there's plenty of good ol' slow-motion shooting people in the face.
