It shouldn't. It hasn't for me. You update by the update.zip method.
Grab the OTA package
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_crespo/VQ8PQk_V.zip
•Rename it to update.zip. This isn't needed for the Nexus S bootloader, but it makes things easy, if that's how you prefer them.
• Copy it over to the internal storage on your Nexus S.
• Power off, then hold volume up and power to reboot to the bootloader.
• Using the volume key to navigate, select recovery, then use the power button to confirm
• When you see the warning triangle and arrow, hold the power button and tap volume up. You'll see a menu.
• From the menu, select "apply update from /sdcard", and choose update.zip from the list.
• Let it do its thing and update your system, radio, and other partitions. When finished, choose "reboot system now"
• Enjoy!
Thanks. Will this wipe the device?
Maybe because I was on a custom ROM (CM7) but it wouldn't install for me
I wiped and put CM9 on instead though
I can't be bothered faffing about doing it manually, so it'll be a nice surprise when it comes through.
I find it quite trololol that we're getting the 4.0.3. update before the Galaxy Nexus does.
Mine's not OTA'd yet, and I can't be bothered faffing about doing it manually, so it'll be a nice surprise when it comes through.
I did the update last night, very pleased indeed so far, runs very nicely. As others have said it's like having a new phone for free!
One major improvement for me has the speed with which it will connect to my wifi network. It used to take about two minutes on Gingerbread, now seems to connect pretty much instantly.
Only problem I have so far is that the Automatic Brightness seems to be a bit too dim, maybe it's just me?
Also, where's the face unlock? I know it's a gimmick but I wanted to play.
