The Official Nexus S Thread

Yeah, that was also stupid that they didn't allow people to use a mirco SD card either, although for me 16GB would be more than enough.

Hmmm, after seeing that tegra 2 thing, think I will diff hold off to see what happens next year with future devices now.

Hopefully these new mobiles with dual core and other things etc. won't kill the battery life after a few hours of use though.

Hmm, someone needs to custom animate that then, just reverse the off animation and put it into the UOT, job done!

But that's not how CRTs switch on, has it really been that long that you've all forgotten? :D

I'm intrigued by this phone, ok, it's not too different than the SGS, but we don't know all of its features. It probably won't have the dodgy GPS for one thing, and I'd be surprised if it's using the exact same SOC as the SGS - at the very least it'll be a die shrink of the old A8 core, it's been 9 months since that came to market! Plus there's the advantage you get from simply having a stock Android phone and not having to wait 6 months for updates. I'm sure that this'll be good all the way up to Honeycomb, whereas Samsung are only _thinking_ about upgrading the SGS to Gingerbread!!
Downside is it doesn't seem to be available from any of the big carriers. Plus I personally would like a keyboard.

Review here: http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/10/nexus-s-review/

I don't think I want one any more. Other than the 4" screen and 16GB internal storage it doesn't offer anything majorly awesome over my Desire (including speed) and since I'll be using Gingerbread soon anyway...

yeah same, im gonna hang for a duel core

Indeed, there is nothing it does that the Desire HD doesn't do as well/better for me.

Roll on the Samsung/HTC dual cores :D

Yeah, will also hold out as well for dual core mobiles and other future releases at the start of next year and also to see what happens with honeycomb and what devices will be getting this update (obviously the nexus s will get it) and even if they turn out to be bad mobiles for battery life or something else at least it should drive the price of the nexus s down a fair bit for the people who would still consider it, including myself.

Also:

So far, from all the previews, reviews, videos etc. the people seem to really like it, which in some ways kind of surprised me as it hasn't got anything new in terms of hardware. And one thing, which they have all mentioned is that it is lightning quick compared to all the other android mobiles to date and even with the live wallpapers, they haven't noticed any lag or slowdowns at all compared to the other devices, apart from the browser when zooming in, something, which could be easily fixed by a small update no doubt (although obviously the mobiles that they are comparing them to are all probably on stock ROMs and the speed could be near the NS if they have custom ROMs installed i.e. the desire running on leedroid or oxygen), but that is most likely down to gingerbread 2.3 that is giving the speed/smoothness/snappiness increase, so when other devices get 2.3 ROMs etc. on the likes of the desire, GS etc. they should have very similar speed/smoothness/snappiness.

This mobile would be more for people who are looking to upgrade from a non smartphone, or something low-mid end like a wildfire, hero etc. at the minute instead of the people who have the desire, nexus 1, galaxy S, desire HD and Z etc. or just for people who want the official google phone for the updates, to have the latest tech or whatever the reason is.

ok guessing most of us in this thread either have a Desire/HD SGS or Nexus 1... so what price would you jump in and buy this for?

I've been after a new phone for probably the best part of a year now lol, was originally after the nexus one, wanted to buy in UK but got stuck on vodafone who I hate, looked at the desire, decided against it as I really wanted a nexus one due to google. Looked at samsung galaxy s, rejected it due to only 3 buttons on front, the Desire HD came out, was tempted but heard about nexus s. Decided I'd buy the nexus s if it has dual core and was a fair price, it's not dual core and the price is a joke. If it was £350 to 400 range I'd have considered it due to ideally wanting a google device but there's no way I'll pay more than the price of galaxy s for basically the same phone...

Now I've decided I might as well wait for the dual core's to come out, preferably htc (better materials) although I'll settle for a samsung if it's got 4 front buttons (want 4 due to a second 'launcher' app) and preferably one that can be easily rooted so the community can fill in for the slow manufacturer updates due to their 'improvements' (only really like htc's app switcher) :o

you strike me as an indecisive person :D

i must say mate for what ever reason you have seen 3 nice phones pass by, duel cores will come but nothing leaked yet.

indecisive maybe, but then I want a phone for as long as possible, not one I'll replace after a year and ideally without all the crap that gets added to android to make it 'better' as it very rarely does. The whole point of android (in my view) is the ability to make it how you want it, if I wanted it to be like they tell me I'd get an iPhone....

It's probably more accurate to say I'm a picky sod especially when you're paying 400 quid or more (only buy sim free and sim only contracts now after the fiasco by vodafone). Hell I even found a phone I'd have bought before dual cores, huawei x6 (a faster, 4" san fran) but it's not out in the UK :(

edit - um leaked android phones featuring dual cores, motorola, lg, samsung, the first 2 have pictures. I'd assume htc have one too...
