After 15 mins of arguing with the manager I finally managed to snag a black 920
Do I need to register it to an orange or tmobile network before I go on a hunt for an unlock code? Most sites ask what network it is locked to so Im guessing I need to stick an orange or tmobile PAYG sim in first?

If you are feeling brave, I can talk to through how to put the UK CV software on the phone. :D

It's normally done with Nokia Care Suite or 3rd party tools. But these tools change to suit new devices and getting hold of these tools takes time, they're mainly for repair personnel or shops.

I have Nokia Care Suite (which I have uploaded to my dropbox), I just need someone to test it for me. :D

Haven't figured out how i'm going to use it or get my lumia 920 unlocked yet but i'm seeing errors on 1232.2110.1244.3011 using EE firmware for white phone, DC_template_development_v4.bin causes a big .net exception
prd_signed.ffu dies at about 14% everytime you download with a webclient error, could be just nokia resetting the connection

looks like he has the same firmware as well....

Nope, I have this one directly from Nokia. :D

You need Nokia Suite 5 version 2012.44.5.5 to support the Lumia 920 / 820.

I've requested a SIM unlock code from one of those unlocking places who reckon they can do it ($60 for the privilege though). Guess I'll wait and see. I'll get in contact with the shop tomorrow though and let them know that I'll be returning it if there's no unlock joy - 28 days under UK law, so should be fine. Back to the trusty S3 for now - screw you Nokia, I just want to give you some money, but oh no...

I'll be interested in the results. :)

Once I have charged it up, I will download the tools and have a look..

Under settings>extras+info I get some additional info

Manufacturer Model Name
RM-821_eu_euro1_342
Mobile Operator Name
ORG-GB
Configuration ID
100280
Cool.

I can see where the other chap on XDA went wrong. Flashing a RM-821 firmware on a RM-820 (US Model) isn't going to work as they run different frequencies etc..

So what is the process then for doing this, should I start by googling for lumia 800 guides to get a feel for it or is WP8 a different beast?

You basically, use the same principle as the Lumia 800.

So it would be.

1. Downloaded firmware
2. Rename the firmware to the same product code as the current handset.
3. Flash - Refurbish the device in Nokia Care Suite
4. Enjoy de-branded firmware

The only PITA is getting the USB drivers to load, these come bundled with Nokia Care suite but may need a extra install. So it means a bit of faffing to start with, once you're up and running you good to go.

Im not sure it is simple as that
Im working on trying to download the RM-821_CV_GB_VAR245507_v2_Black (059R075) variant of the firmware contained within the 1232.2109.1242.1001 folder using Navifirm

NaviFirm + does get a general exception error when trying to download the DC_template_development_v4.bin - I have tried this countless times and it fails everytime on that one file
Everything else in the package file downloads OK

Switching to Data package manager with nokia care suite to get the firmware doesn't help either with the downloads failing within a second of starting..
Trying to get the product support tool working was OK, it picks up the device ( Type RM-821 Product code 059R1W4).
I can then select either the EE variant of the firmware or there is another option when I search
RM-821_CV_GB_VAR253217_v3_Black from the 1244.3 code branch.
If I try to download this from within the product support tool, I get a 'wrong filesize or checksum error' - funny enough, it is for our old friend DC_template_development_v4.bin

So far, Im not getting a reliable or full version, so will keep trying until I can get this sorted as Im guessing from earlier comments that unlocking it via a code might not be as easy as we hope

Hmmmmm. Very interesting. Ill have a look into that once I am finished at work.

This file? :D

DC_template_development_v4

Did you not have an issue getting that - I could download every single file apart from that, the moment it hit that file I would get a NET exception error.
What did you change or is it a Win8 issue as that is all I have after upgrading everything?

I downloaded it yesterday without any problem, today it seems I am having the same problems.
