Dropbox is on the way....

Dropbox has announced at LeWeb 2012 in Paris that the company has released a Modern UI Dropbox app for certification in the Windows 8 Store.

The app will become available as soon as it passes certification, and will support access to files, photos and media files stored in the cloud from the desktop but also on Windows RT devices like the Surface.

At the event, Aditya Agarwal, Vice President of Engineering at Dropbox, reconfirmed the company’s desire to develop apps for the major desktop and mobile operating systems and allow users to store and access their files from most modern devices.

Dropbox has more than 100 million registered users, making it one of the major services to adopt the new OS environment.

You're out of luck I'm afraid, they're supposedly working on an update.

WhatsApp promises to be 6 times faster on Windows Phone 8

While WhatsApp may be available for anyone trying to avoid text messaging fees on Windows Phone 7 it seems like its release on Windows Phone 8 might be a way off. This week one eager WhatsApp user contacted the app's support team and was told that it was not known when it would become available. However he was informed that it would be six times faster than the current version of the app for Windows Phone and will come with new emoticons.

Wooohooo Good news.

Vodafone UK has published a new entry on its blog detailing plans for Windows Phone 8. The carrier previously unveiled that it would be stocking a selection of Windows Phone 8 hardware in early 2013. More details have been revealed as the company has now confirmed that a new Windows Phone will be joining the Lumia 820, HTC 8X and HTC 8S. It would appear as though the Lumia 920 exclusivity deal with EE is drawing to an end.

The flagship Nokia handset will be making its way to Vodafone in the new year. We had doubts that the manufacturer would continue down the exclusive path with EE, especially with all the negativity the new 4G network has received from consumers due to data limitations, expensive pricing and sub-par service. We even wrote up a short opinion piece on why consumers dislike the new network.

Stephen Elop (his PA more likely) will be hearing from me, we need answers as to why the update has been certified for American release yet markets in Europe won't be getting it till February. I was thinking January cause there is always a Christmas lull so a little extra time is needed for Europe. Americans don't really get as much guaranteed holiday as we do.

I believe the update was always scheduled as Q1 2013. :)

Oooooooh.... Looks like the update is making its way on to Nokia servers. As its showing for a number of product codes. (1232.5951.1249.1001 - 1003) :D

Heard from EE tech support tonight that we will get Portico mid Februay, the guy said they have not received the firmware yet and are expecting it in early January at which time it will go through network trials before release, prob means march I would imagine.

They will already have the firmware, it just need to jump through all the internal hoops to be signed off.

Orange_CH build is already showing on Nokia's servers. :p

So what about those that flashed the CV_GB firmware? Surely, that doesn't have to go through the carriers so why not release it now?

UK firmware isn't showing yet on the servers, you probably could do a bit of a frankenstein build if you want the update. However, the UK one should show up shortly.

Enough of the Windows 8 flame wars guys, there are other threads for that. This is a Lumia 920 and WP8 thread. Let's keep it that way and let's keep it civilised... like the way it has been for the last 5700 posts!

Agreed!

Does anyone know what EE's return policy will be on one of these?
Say if I use it for a week but don't get along with it will I be able to return the handset?

Thanks,
Jake

You are covered by DSR, if the handset was ordered online. So you should be able to return it within 7 days.

If it was purchased instore, I believe you are stuck with it. However, I could be wrong.

I have randomly entered this subforum to find the upgraded handset I have chosen appears to be a popular choice - did I choose well?

I am loving the Lumia phone.

Is this thread a celebration (of sorts) of the handset? I couldn't be happier with the geeky options. i love this phone.

Ironically, I selected this handset for the big screen,to assist better surfing, and the benefits of wireless chargig and Pc compatibility are extra boosts

Great choice IMO. What colour Lumia did you get? :p

Lumia 920 available at EE stores for £329 with free charger

The UK's first network operator to offer 4G, as well as being the exclusive partner for the Lumia 920 is currently offering the Windows Phone for a discounted price when purchased on PAYG (Pay As You Go). EE has been the only operator in the UK to offer the Lumia 920 since the Windows Phone 8 device was launched two months ago.

Restricted to EE, Orange, T-Mobile and reportedly Virgin Mobile, consumers who opt to purchase the Lumia 920 locked to EE will be able to pick one up for just £329. That's over £200 cheaper than unlocked pricing. Unfortunately the Windows Phone will be locked to EE, which is currently going through teething while customers (and potential subscribers) are left baffled by numerous issues.

Ranging from a poorly constructed website to obscene pricing and poor service, EE hasn't had the easiest of transitions when taking up T-Mobile and Orange, wrapping both together with its new 4G service. When browsing the EE website it's not apparent that the Lumia 920 is a hero device for the operator with the exclusivity deal that's currently still in force with Nokia. We're not seeing a strong Windows Phone push.

For £329, the Lumia 920 is a bargain - regardless what network the device is locked to. Sporting an 8.7MP Nokia PureView camera (with a 1.2MP front-facing shooter), a 4.5'' 1280 x 768 IPS display, dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4, 1GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage, 2000mAh battery, wireless charging, it's definitely worth the price tag - especially since a free wireless charger is involved.

Vodafone has announced plans to stock the Lumia 920 in early 2013, while Three UK has revealed on Twitter that the company wants to take up Nokia's flagship Windows Phone. We expect other UK operators to follow suit, competing with EE on the 4G LTE battleground. Should you be looking forward to investing in the latest hardware from Nokia and aren't in a hurry, be sure to keep an eye out for deals that will be available with carriers.

Check your local EE store for more information on the deal.

My local EE stores outright refused to sell me one last Friday saying the 920 doesn't exist on Pay and Go.

Sounds about right for EE. Three, O2 and Vodafone are due to stock the 920 in the new year, so hopefully more people can avoid them.....
