16nm is supposed to give a 2x per/watt improvement... even assuming a 1080 is "only" 60% faster than the 980 it replaces, that still places it about 30% faster than a 980ti with everything on stock settings... now you can get about a 25% OC out of a 980ti compared with stock, so it then depends on how well the 1080 overclocks compared with the current cards

If the 1080 is 30% faster than the 980ti then I for one will be selling my other 980ti and getting one 1080, and then upgrading again when the 1080ti comes out... and still end up with a nice chunk o change in pocket

But there is only 90 days to do it?

Because I'll have sold two 980ti's (which were themselves entirely paid for by selling my Titans before that), and i already got a partial refund on one of my.cards because the retailer didnt want to RMA it for what turned out to be needing a repaste

Titan = original titans
Were sold and more than paid for
2x 980ti

One now sold and one partial refund from a lazy retailer, one still to sell when (if) the 1080 comes out and bests it

But the initial cost was 2k:eek:

And with 1x1080 you'll probably have a slower gaming PC...

I'm struggling to understand the logic...

Your making it sound that your pair of 980ti were free ...the Titans didn't pay for them you did :p

Well we don't know what the speed of a 1080 is yet. But a 980ti was already faster than the titans were so...

Yes I physically paid for them, but they didn't cost me anything

It'll be a 1080ti and change at least, so 2018 by the time I actually need to inject any more cash

But a slower experience

There is no way a single 1080ti will offer 980ti sli performance...

So with all the hassle and money you've downgraded.

In fact spent more than someone just buying a new 1080ti outright on release. :p

He initially paid for 2 Titans, which led to 2 980Ti, which will lead to one 1080 and some change left over.

What's complicated about that?

Nothing ...but it's a tad pointless in speed terms.

Take my easyrider shuffle...

Say I sell my 980ti now for 450... I buy a stop gap card like 780 for 150 until 1080ti is released.

I've banked 300

Then the 1080ti come and it's 550

I sell the 780 for say 100 and put 150 and my 300 towards it.

I might aswell just have kept my 980ti and sell it when 1080ti hits and

A : not had the hassle
B :not spent anymore money

But I've still got an upgrade.

I was getting about 60% usage on my 980ti's so I'd rather have a much faster single card and the extra money waiting for the next upgrade after that, or R6 Siege that doesn't support SLI anyway but still gets 100fps on one card
And then there's VR which has a grand total of one game that supports VR-SLI so far

The end result will be better performance in practice

But a very high residual cost.:p
