** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

Time for me to step out of this thread now. Getting annoyed with the goal posts being moved and stupid comments and facts and reasoning being ignored.

My Rift arrives tomorrow and time to set things up for that as well as play The Division.

I'm incredibly intrigued to see what the Titan price will be this time. I won't get one, I would only get the 1080 or the 1080TI now, but if the Titan is 1000+, I worry for what the TI will be.

Indeed. It is getting pretty irritating that everyone is ignoring the fact that the regular rrp is $599, and instead just taking one site's guess at the founders edition uk price as gospel.

Back then we had the 8800gt for around £180. The same part is somehow now worth £620. The 8800gt is pretty much the same size as well at 324mm2. This is not inflation it's just madness. There is factors like inflation and dollar/pound but these come no where close to £620.

Those of us who have been round long enough remember what was on offer for much better value and won't accept this as the norm end of story.

In 2006 1 GBP got you 1.9 USD. My 8800 GTX cost £305, about $579.

Given inflation and exchange rates its not that huge a difference.

Gotta love how this thread is just full of people with old cards blaming the a**e off of Nvidia for the poor strength of the pound, probably whilst simultaneously voting to leave the EU which is probably the biggest reason you are now paying more for your dollars.

Clearly the price will level a little more sensibly in the £550 region but ultimately if you cannot afford to buy the best GPU in market then you need to adjust your expectations and stick to lower graphics/res. Lets not forget the 1070 is probably aimed squarely at you if you were one of the 'want a 980Ti but its £550 crowd'.

When the 980 was released the exchange rate to dollars was much stronger, probably contributing about £100 of the difference alone. Can we move on now? :)

Welcome to a Dystopian future, where AMD no longer have the power to keep Nvidia in check. A strong AMD means reasonable prices.

If i can pick up a 1080 for £500 in a couple of months, then i can cope with that . . it's still more expensive than a 980, but hey i guess Nvidia put a lot of money into Pascal which they need to recoup.

If prices stay North of £600 though (i suspect they might, as 3rd party vendors KNOW people are going to cough up for the FE) then we have been royally bummed.

From here my mate paid over £500 for a bfg. We were lucky with the pound though. A year later we got the 4870 at around £200 which was comparible to a gtx260 which was close to top end. The mid range part is below this and more like the 4850. They are trying to fleece us by selling a mid range part at top end prices. I don't get why people can't see this. You only have to look at the code names we have. Gp100 top, Gp102. Gp104 and Gp106. i don't know if there is a gp107/8 as i have not checked. This is Gp104 which is not close to the top end and in the same family.

The 1080 is replacing the 980, not a card from 2006. How much was the 980 before the last price drop caused by the 1080 announcement?

Around £400 i think maybe less. You could get a Nano for £350 that was faster and less for a 390x which is a good match. All these chips are bigger and most likely cost more to manufacture on release or maybe now. This bit is debatable though but the Nano most certainly does at around 600mm2.

At the end of the day it's not AMD or Nvidia's fault. It's ours for buying the products at the ever growing prices. And as someone above mentioned previously, If you cannot afford the high-end then go to the mid level tier.

Go to the mid level tier and buy a Polaris card when they arrive. This will give you a good efficient card at hopefully a great price and it will help bring prices down from Nvidia. ;):D
