***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

I will give you 500 of the queens very english pounds for that!

Double that offer, and we can talk :D

I'm not a massive Star Wars fan, but the Lego sets are cool just on their own as space models.

I would love the 5000 piece Millennium Falcon more for the challenge and joy of building it rather than because of what it is.

Mp3duck is my hero. I can't believe your selling the Falcon!

Will post pics tomorrow! It is certainly the most challenging set I've built. Took several hours over many nights to complete (not forgetting the days sorting the totally mixed up pieces into like by like bags).

Did anyone see the Lego advent calendar in Central?

Yup:

My OH also got me Anakins Jedi Interceptor as well though I haven't had the chance to build it yet.

Cant remember the last time I received Lego from "Santa" gonna guess maybe 11/12? But I'm glad to report at the age of 19 mum and dad surprised me with this! As soon as I lifted the box I knew I had heard that rattle before :D

3-4hrs work, lil' sis (10) loved every stage so much so she wants me to take her out so she can buy herself *cough me cough* some Lego with her Xmas money - WIN!

SNAP!

One of the xmas presents from the gf :)

I did my supercar today, took about 6 hours or so in total.

****ed up the gearbox though which means I have to take it all apart and build it again
One of the cogs is in the wrong place and it won't open the bonnet or pop the spoiler up on the motor.
I blame the wine :(

Started on the Crawler assembly this evening, LOTS of intricate parts and very much like the Unimog build which is a good thing. Should keep me occupied for a while.

I've got a couple of UCS Models to post up ! The 5000+ Piece Falcon, and the latest super star destroyer.

On another note, what's the best way to clean huge amounts of Lego? I am thinking about selling my Falcon (£1000+ on eBay) but some of the pieces are a bit grubby from being on display. I see people put in in the washing machine here. Would I just put them inside a pillow case of something, and use cable ties to seal it up? I am guessing I should avoid detergents.

I've washed some in the bath before with washing up liquid and just stirred the water around a bit then stuck it all inside a towel and jiggled it about to dry it

I think if its just dust then what you have done is probably fine. Its when you come across some old Lego kids have had and its covered in dried food and gunge is when you need to get drastic :)

Quite possibly a daft question, but does a percentage royalty of the money from Star Wars Lego purchases go to George Lucas or did Lego gain the full rights?

I suspect they have exclusive rights as you dont see SW Meccano or SW K'Nex. Either that or the licence is so expensive that no one else can afford to pay it except Lego :D

Edit: I guess the question now is, does Lucas get a percentage or Disney?

Lucasarts gets the royalties.

Since Disney now own Lucasarts in its entirety, any money Lucasarts takes goes to the Disney parent company.

George lucas will then take a % of the profits in his share dividend but won't directly get any cut of the royalties any more.

But then again he did take $ 4 billion from Disney for the company !

a lot of it was covered in grunge :P the bath water was pretty hot i think most of the food stuff just went into a slimey mess at the bottom off the bath and sat there

Now that the patent is up on Lego they no longer have the monopoly on the market, so are trying to keep their status through having decent licences (Star Wars, Harry Potter, now Lord of the Rings, etc). I expect Lego will pay handsomely for exclusivity on the licences they do get.

Also, just a heads up, series 8 minifigs are 99p at Argos and selling fast!

They lost the patent in '89

The lego star wars thing is quite recent. They dominated the market in the '90s simply by being better than the competition.
