** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

Hey Ryan where would you find an MX clear, white or even green keyboard? I know some CM storms sold greens for a while but I think they got discontinued.

Sorry for missing this! :)

The MX Clear I have been looking at is the "Ducky DK9008G2 PRO Dark Grey Version". Ducky also make some TKL with MX Green, but the MX Whites are harder to find - and Ducky don't use these (apart from on their Hybrid board that contains all switch types :p). They can be found on some 60% and 75% KBTalking keyboards.

Places to try mechanical keyboards

Having seen the ducky shine 3 I'm toying with the idea of getting one. Problem is I've never tried a mechanical keyboard and I'm trying to work out if it's worth the step up for me and if it is which switch to go for

I know it's tough to say without talking about competitors but I'd quite like to try at least some of the switches out to know what I like. I think it'll be between reds and browns from reading the thread on here and I've been to my local purple shirts to look for them, as that's the place I most commonly see suggested, but with no luck.

Does anyone know anywhere else (within forum rules of course) that could be helpful? I'm considering a switch testing pack from the US but does a single switch really give you a feel for what a board is like?

Sorry for the questions, mods I hope this post is ok

Thanks

Edit: I should add I'm too far away for a trip to the ocuk shop

has anyone here eitehr cleaned or bought replacement caps for a CMStorm QuickFire? Mine are a little bit dusty/mucky and i'm wondering if I should either:

a) take all the caps off and clean them one by one

or

b) buy a new set.

Don't clean them one by one, just take them all off, chuck them in a container with warm water and washing up liquid and mix them about a bit, scrub the dirtier ones if necessary, and then just rinse with water, and let them dry out!

I think that i deserve some kind of award - My Corsair K70 has just flickered and died on me only a few months after my CM Storm Trigger died. That's 2 mech keyboards dead in the space of a year - surely that is some kind of record. I wouldn't mind but i hardly use the bloody things these days! Back to the old X6 we go again

QPAD MK-80 died tonight after about 15 months use :( Scroll lock LED is out as well as it not working. The numpad keys have been more and more temperamental in the past few months, now all my cursor keys as well as b/n and forward slash are dead. Guessing it's a goner? Bit gutted really, loved the QPAD but won't be buying another. Anyone else had the same issue?

After drinking a 1/4 of a cup of tea my Gigabyte Osmium did survive after a clean but the D key sometimes doesn't work or I get about 5 D's :(

So it's now useless for gaming. Looking to replace it sadly. Flico or Ducky look good. Is the G710 any good now? Because I did read some bad reports when I was deciding which keyboard to buy.

I love my G710, wouldn't swap it for anything, but these keyboards are all personal taste for the most part.

Hmm... Do the QPAD keyboards have reliability issues then?

Was about to pull the trigger on an MK-85 with Brown Switches, but maybe I should hold off on that. MAy just get a Corsair Vengeance K70 with MX Brown's whenever they actually come out.

I'm sure QPAD keyboards are made by or based on ione keyboards which are known for reliability and build quality problems.

I've got the filco majestouch ninja (side printed) keyboard with cherry browns, and a Ducky II shine with red leds and also cherry browns. The filco I've had for a few years, the Ducky I ordered from Hong Kong so it's the american style. Good to see OCUK stocking them now.
The filco drank half a pint of guinuess the other day, but distilled water, a dustblaster and leaving it upside down on the radiator overnight fixed it.
Would not go back. The ducky nightrider/cylon keyboard looks the shiznit.
