*** The Official OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 Thread ***

Well I don't know what's going on with it ... doing stuff via Finder is acting up but file operations via the terminal are fine and perfectly normal. I think a full format and reinstall via USB will be in order ...

I used Carbon Copy Cloner to do my backup - its much easier and faster. It's not free anymore but it has a 30 day trial.

Might install it shortly on my Early 2008 MBP (non unibody).

Quick question, I really like the 4 finger swipe up to show desktop and 4 finger swipe down to show all open windows shortcuts. I seem to recall these were not in Lion when they it first came out. Are they in ML?

Is there any difference if I install the GM as opposed to the one on the app store?

You can use BetterTouchTool to customise the gestures to your preferences. I can't remember what is default anymore as I have my own setup. It even let's you setup different gestures for different apps.

Ah yes this was the thread that first brought the issue to my attention after me thinking I was going nuts! I think there are a few other threads across other forums where people are experiencing the same problems. Judging by the volume of people posting it doesn't seem to be widespread though which I guess doesn't exactly help in getting the problem fixed.

I haven't been able to reproduce the issue since removing gfxCardStatus, which I find very bizarre, although it's bound to happen sooner or later ain't it? :D

I tried uninstalling gfxcardstatus again, and also did a PRAM reset. Hurrah! Problem fixed so far...

I don't get how something so simple isn't working. For some reason all my contacts are gone from my iChat account under Messages. Even though it's the same Apple ID I have always used.

Good to know. The touchpad is smaller on my machine so the new 4 finger pinch stuff is a bit tricky.

Just received my code redemption email with a password locked PDF file...now i wait for my password email...

This is a joke. The password they've sent me doesn't open the file... :/

EDIT - They sent me two different locked PDF files in the end. Got a second one shortly after the password. I wonder if i should ask what the password is for it.

Quick help needed please. Just used a tool to create the bootable USB and I am a bit unsure if it worked correctly.

Can someone mount theirs and confirm this is right (The size is what is concerning me):

Absolutely love this update to the OS. The new safari is superb and from someone who hasn't used any of the third party alternatives in a very long time, the extra speed is very welcome. I also like the power nap function for my 2011 mac air model as it means I can connect my external hdd before I go to sleep and it'll backup all my photos and documents without making a sound or hindering my productivity.

Also noticed that the software update is now part of the mac app store, which is another nice thing for me as I'm a big fan of having everything under 1 program (due to being lazy when it comes to software!)

I managed to get my refund. If you couldn't wait for your code like I did and bought anyway then you should be able to do the same :)

Looks fine. Not sure why you used a tool though? Simple enough with disk utility.
First match on google.
Why such a big USB disk for a small installer? keeping a 8GB stick is plenty.
Didn't have anything else handy that I could wipe.
It's fine.
Thanks.

All installed now. Not that impressed to be honest (Although I guess I have ben using SL for 3 years).

Bootup and shutdown (which to be fair I rarely do) are both much slower. On SL the spinning thing during boot would spin 2.5 times. Now it is 9. On shutdown I would never even see it, now I do.

New gestures are all a bit rubbish and I find fullscreen mode a bit confusing as well. I will have to install the tool someone mentioned earlier to reconfigure the gestures.

iCloud integration seems good, Mainly the seamless sync of Notes to my iPad will be handy.

if I had a copy of the SL DVD (I gave mine away!!) I would just reinstall that back tbh.
