The official Philips BDM4065UC thread

I LOVE My monitor.

Been Playing Dark souls 2 a lot. (60 hours this month) its so nice to lean back in my chair with the xbox controller and enjoy the visuals.

There's a standalone command line utility called NIRCMD:-

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html
http://nircmd.nirsoft.net/setdisplay.html

Create a file called "SetResUW.cmd" in the same directory as "nircmd.exe" and put the following command in the file:-

nircmd.exe setdisplay 3840 1648 32

Then place a shortcut to the cmd file on your desktop.

Oh cool thanks. I had a look last night after leaving my message here and found another tool called "Display Changer II" which handles multiple monitors so I went with that - it also allows you to specify the refresh rate too. I haven't yet seen my display fall back to 30Hz so I've no idea if it'll actually fix the issue I get with 60Hz->30Hz though!

NIRCMD will do multiple monitors and refresh rates as well. See the second link for the parameters.

(The custom resolution has to be set up in the display driver first before trying to use NIRCMD).

Also, I found that when you update the display drivers, the custom resolutions get removed and you have to set them up again.

I decided to return my monitor 2 weeks ago to Philips and they shipped me another one which arrived yesterday. The new one has pressure marks permanently in the screen and it looks as if it came straight from another customer (his address is still on the box). The box itself was also damaged.

Hoping I'll have it sorted by Christmas

HellboundIRL - if the warranty is On-Site then surely they arrive with a new monitor before they take the old one away ?

How come you were without one for 2 weeks ?

I have no idea honestly, they arranged for a pickup with DPD on a Monday and the new one arrived the following week - so a week and a half without one.

It went to Repairtech in the UK and then I got a replacement shipped from Sweden.

Years ago I bought some 27" Hanns.G monitors which started malfunctioning. RepairTech did the replacement/repairs, on one occasion I had to return at least two of the replacement monitors they sent me which were either physically damaged or faulty. I hope RepairTech are better today.

I've been using this monitor for two weeks and it's absolutely amazing. My Dell 3008WFP 30" monitor died and this was the replacement. I was thinking that it was going to dwarf my Dell but actually it was lighter and thinner in comparison and it's not so overwhelming as some make it out to be.

There are no dead pixels or flickering. I have been playing the new Call of Duty game and I see no ghosting or anything that impacts my gaming. I have also tried CS:GO and all is great with that too - I am not a professional gamer but i have been playing CS since 1.6 and I found the responsiveness good enough for my own gaming purposes (I also dabbled in some retro games recently like Red Alert but that's not so important for my review, but that worked out well scaling down to a lower resolution too :D)

Watching films at 4k is incredible, wow, I was blown away at how nice everything looks. It's definitely makes a difference in my eyes over my older Dell at a lower resolution.

Productivity was impressive, the ability to fit multiple Word and Excel documents was fantastic. I also was able to run a lower resolution 2560 x 1600 Citrix connection to my work which allowed me to run multiple windows at the same time on the same screen. Very cool indeed. Adobe Photoshop looked good enough for my own purposes, if you need it for professional reasons on this monitor, I think you should read the TFTCentral review in detail first.

I followed the guide to calibrate the colours on TFTCentral and this really did a great job! The difference before and after applying the profile was very clear to see, I recommend everyone who owns this monitor to adopt the profile provided on that site.

Even though it was clearly stated in this thread how to set the monitor to 60Hz, I really struggled with navigating and setting this up. In the end I managed to do this and all is now working well. You need to have a lot of patience when navigating the menus.

The power indicator light was annoying right at the bottom of the screen, however, the lovely people at Phillips provided thin black strips in the plastic bag which contained the manual. This easily covered the light without causing any negative visible aesthetic change.

I give this monitor a solid 8/10 a definite buy for those looking for a hi-res monitor.

@ihatelag

I have been considering this monitor for such a long time, but holding out for pascal as I require a new Graphics card to run as 5970 won't cut it. I have 2 dell 30" both 3007 models 1 a wfp and the other a wfphc which has been my main for 8 odd years. I had been considering a Gigabyte G1 though with its dual dvi outputs so I could still run my Dells.
Your review only adds to some of the previous Dell owners I have seen happy with this monitor.
Can you clarify what the colour on this is actually like? A lot say cold too much to blue spectrum not vibrant. I know it's an 8 bit panel, but how would you compare it to your 2008 in this area. How do you find the dimming in the corners?
Can you also tell me if you have used as a TV or ran any 1080p content on it is the upscalling as good as the Dell?

If you take the monitor straight in user define mode, out of the box experience then you will find the blue spectrum to be far too cool. You will be forced to turn it down to make the colours warmer. I ran the ICC profile on TFTCentral which did the trick and it looks great. In comparison to my 3008WFP it's marginally better after calibration. That being said, at work I use a 3014WFP and that is marginally better than the Phillips monitor. I believe that the computer / graphics card might be making a difference in the result. The only thing I can do fairly compare the 3008 to the Phillips as they both used the same system/gfx and lighting. In regards to dimming, this has not stood out for me on the Phillips.

I haven't used it as a TV, I have only been using it as a computer over DP. I watch some anime shows in 1080p and and some TV shows in 720p that looks good enough for my purposes. My review focused on the 4k viewing which is superb.

Has anyone's USB ports on this monitor packed in? When I plug something into the monitor Windows pops up a message saying 'USB device not recognised', or just nothing at all.

In Device Manager it shows as 'Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)'.

I have had this issue a couple of times, usually due to too much power draw, that said my Asrock motherboard is absolute crap and the USB's just keep cutting out randomly anyway. I've had nothing but issues with ASRock boards but they were the only blue board i could find :D

Anyway...

TL;DR: Yes i have but it might not be a monitor issue in my situation.

I RMA'd mine for PWM flicker. Spoke to Phillips on the phone, within 3 working days they dropped off the new one and collected the faulty one. Brand new replacement...sold it as such lol.

FYI they're great screens - I loved mine, but desk wasn't deep enough and I wanted to go back to something smaller.
