The official Philips BDM4065UC thread

Anyone know if there's an app or extention that will dim everything outside of a browser window?

I can't watch netflix full screen at my desk as the monitor is too big, so I watch it in a window in the middle of the screen.

I'd like to find a way that I can dim everything outside of the chrome window though to draw focus to the video and lower the brightness of everything surrounding it.

Any idea if there's anything that will do that? I found Turn Off The Lights, but that only dims within the browser window, not outside of it.

Not sure if this is a sensible suggestion, but could you lower the screen res on a 1:1 basis? E.g. you get a 1440p window in the middle of the screen.

That actually works really well in terms of shrinking and centering the video!

It screws with the layout of my other windows when I swap back to native res, but I can deal with that for the time being.

Cheers mate :)

what i plan to do is connect to my towert in a different room so cable length is about 10 metres, does anybody think this will cause any issuers?

How did you guys manage to remove the protective foil from the front (see pic)? It's driving me nuts.

)

That pee'd me off. Had to tear off as much as i could and poke some in with a wooden cocktail stick in the end. I did try and remove two screws and move the fortn panel but it didn't come off.

I researched it a little while ago and narrowed it down to these two, but I haven't bought one yet.

Has anyone tried these with a desk clamp monitor arm yet?

I'm looking at the Ergotron ones.

Wondering if I can get away with the normal LX, or if I need the LX tall pole version or even the LX Sit-stand one.

Eyeing it up it looks like the monitor would work grand on the normal one or possibly the pole one, but the specs say the first 2 are only for screens up to 32"

It should definitely fit on the sit stand one as the spec says up to 42", but I'm wondering if it's actually overkill.

Major benefit I can see from trying the sit stand one is that I reckon you'd be able to rotate the entire screen 90 degrees for portrait mode due to the extra length and manoeuvrability.

Just received my monitor and all I can say is wow, the thing is amazing, picture quality is brilliant. No UK power lead though so had to use one from my other monitor, also no haribo :(

@gareth170

Do you still have issues with the dark stripe at the bottom of the screen when using SmartUniformity mode? I have the exact same problem. Did you RMA your monitor? I wonder if I was sent your device ;)

i haven't RMA mine because other people said theirs is the same on SmartUniformity mode.

Nice one :)

I need to sand my desk a bit in order to move it to the position I think would benefit from using the arm, just haven't got around to it yet.

Currently using one of the adjustable sit stand desks from Ikea anyway, so height adjustment hasn't been much of a problem as I thought it might be with the stock stand!

Netflix or Amazon Prime 4k video's don't work with this tv right?

I'm looking for some 4k content to watch, Amazon say's it has 4k films but I can't find them anywhere (I have a Prime)

Correct - because it isn't a TV. And yes, it's very frustrating and high time 'they' sorted out some decent UHD content for PC users.

I think 4K content will appear soon enough whether it's legal or not. Think I recently read about Netflix having some 4K content leaked to torrent sites. Got the impression this was done with an HDCP stripper/HDMI splitter rather than high tech hacking.

Netflix only stream 4K if you pay extra for the '4K' service and are using a compatible UHD TV.

Have tried to play a few Netflix shows in 4K on my PC and it won't allow it. :(

Ah right..I guess once 4k blu rays come out we'll be able to get them other ways rather than streaming.

I guess it's not a big deal at the moment since I have 4mb internet so wouldn't be able to stream any 4k anyway lol
