*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Infamous is making my console get really loud lol never really heard the fans much on it before today, but it's going mental lol

Massively loud in a tv cabinet, I tried it on mine and my bro's PS4 in the same enviro and both sound like jet engines. PS4s bought at different times, from different stores and not the same batch. I have yet to use it in a well ventilated area :) Second Son does seem to make it slightly louder/hotter than Killzone and def louder than BF4. If this is what the release games are putting it through what's it going to be like when game gfx get another boost!?

I was looking at getting some of the orb grips. How do they feel compared to the normal thumb sticks?

They feel great, much nicer than without - bigger surface area, grippier and softer.

I've ordered some from Amazon so I'll give them a try. If I don't like them i'll just send the pad off to Sony for a replacement.

It would be the same :p It's not like games are using x% usage of the gpu/cpu now and later on they'll be full whack, but as development continues they find ways to optimise tasks so it can achieve more with the same hardware.

If anything in future it could become better as less demanding titles use optimised practices which in turn uses less system resources thus less cooling needed :)

You could always buy an SSD (stupidly expensive though) they run cooler than standard mechanical hard drives, which would help cool the system down as a whole.

Or just buy a belkin laptop USB cooling pad for a few quid and place your PS4 on top of it?

My BRAVIA remote connects to the PS4. I assume this will be handy when I want to play blu rays because my TV remote will probably control the Blu-Ray. However, it is a little annoying that when I press the HOME key on the remote with the intention of changing the picture setup, it makes the PS4 drop back to the home screen like it would if I had pressed the PS button the pad.

those smart HDMI link controls are more hassle than they are worth unless you only use that TV for gaming and nothing else.

e.g. if you switch sources it can turn your ps4 on even though you don't want to play ps4 but just wanted to switch from say PC to Satellite. You then have to turn your DS4 on and then turn the ps4 off every time you switch sources and cycle past the PS4 source.

Can't see either of those things making more than a few degrees difference at best. Certainly won't stop a loud console being loud.

Not quite, some games will be more demanding than others, affecting heat and thus fan noise as a result.

My PS4 made a right racket when I first got it, but that was because the back of my TV cabinet was partially sealed so the hot air blowing straight out the back would just build up.

I removed the back and it's been massively quieter ever since, however I have noticed with Infamous SS that fan noise is slightly increased over something like AC4.

I love using a dock for my gamepads as it stops me losing them....;)

Without a dock I just end up leaving them everywhere and then I forget where I put them..:o

yeah thats the main point really. Can plonk it on top of my PS4 and leave them on charge all the time. Out of the kids reach.

Not that I game much on my PS4 these days anyhoo - just don't get the time!

Anyways - still no sign of these docks other than the price gouged ones at £36! - Should only be about £25 for the official one

If the console is too warm, or even doing some sort of background process when you turn it off like syncing, the fans will continue to spin for a period of time in my experience.

The release of InFamous: Second Son has given PS4 hardware sales a big jump in the UK.

MCV has been told by a trusted retail source that sales of PS4 consoles jumped 106 per cent last week as exclusive title InFamous: Second Son debuted on Sony’s machine, jumping straight to No.1 in the process.

That’s a bigger jump than Xbox One enjoyed following the release of Titanfall – that saw sales of Microsoft’s machine jump 96 per cent.

InFamous today debuted at No.1 in the UKIE GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 40.

Not doing too bad. Ground Zeroes sold a lot better on PS4 also.

Indeed they are, but that wasn't the point being made :) The post quoted assumed further improvements in games down the line would make the PS4 run hotter.

Which is potentially true. Plenty of people reported their PS3s running hotter/louder when The Last Of Us and GTA5 were released, for example.

Is there an easy access way to get into the PS4 fans to give them a clean? My PS4 is on for quite a lot of the day and the room I'm in gets dusty quickly so I can only imagine how dusty the inside of my PS4 must be.
