*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

yep the blu ray drive is quite loud when a disc is inserted and its spinning up to start reading data. it does calm down after 5 or so secs, tomb raider made the drive sing whilst installing..

its quite normal, its a high speed blu ray drive. if it makes a constant noise for no reason then panic , and as said. its under warranty and covered by sales of goods act. you're well covered so don't worry ....

not a lot of people know about SOGA, i managed to get play.com to pay 50% of the cost for a refurb from sony after my launch ps3 died 5 years and 11 months after the purchase date.

SOGa is 6 years in scotland and 5 in england, they would have paid out 100% had I went and got an electrical engineers to test the console and produce a report which stated it was a manufacturing fault, rather than go through all that I decided to take 50% of the cost of a refurb as it had lasted so long before dying.

my mate tried it with amazon though and they didn't offer him anything without a report, etc.

My friend has the same issue apparently is quiet common

You sure its 20 seconds? Mines like 5 seconds then quiet - mines on a shelf

ps3ud0

Probably not 20 seconds, just guessing.

As I say though it's really not a big issue and it doesn't do it every single time, which makes me think it's something to do with the way I have it on my desk.

People are solving the issue by lodging a piece of paper under the front left of the PS4 so no doubt it's in relation to some plastic rattling rather than an issue directly with the drive.

On another point, would anyone recommend the PS4 stands? I would look at getting one just so my PS4 doesn't take as much room up on my desk.

hey guys these stand up ok without the vertical stand right? got one coming tomorrow and have made enough space vertically and wondered if i need one of those 4 quid game stands.

People were saying that if it's stood up without a stand you are blocking some vents.

standing a console vertically is usually not recommended by people who repair consoles they say it stresses them more than having them flat.

"Quite disk drive: Placing the PS4 horizontally will reduce system noise, which mainly originates from the rotating disk drive.

In addition to this, there will be less weight and stress on the drive

More cooling: With the new consoles, more heat is produced as the functions which ensure smooth running of the game are enormous. To prevent the console's internal parts from getting overheated, one can keep it horizontally as both sides of the console have an intake vent."

that confirms what i was told by someone who repairs console for a living

Buying another PS3. A lot of games being announced for it and not on PS4 plus I haven't played GTA V or Dark Souls and quite a few others.
I'll shout when my vertically positioned PS4 blows up

Wrong, air can get in the official stand, i have one.

Rubbish, the ps4 is designed to sit vertical if needed, i have no issues whatsoever, again air gets in through the official stand, 3rd party stands i can't answer that.

Just had the vibrating noise on my PS4 again when loading Fifa. If you push down on the bottom corner of the PS4 it goes away. Must just be vibration.

I thought they said it was 1080p already.

It has borders so technically it's less vertically (1920x800). I quite like the look of it, very cinematic. :)

Although is isn't 800p, it's still 1920 wide, the 800p is just what the internet have taken to calling it.

Ugh hated the borders in dragons dogma, it's all well and fine in movies but I want my games fullscreen.
