*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

I need optical. Only way your getting a Dolby Digital headset working.

Streamers won't be happy with this change, that's for sure.

I doubt they'll have an issue.. most streamers will already have a PS4 so would not have a need to buy this one, they would be more interested in the NEO, if that had no optical I'd be surprised.

I use optical for my Astro's but this model is not really an interest for me, I'll buy the Neo :)

Just hope the Neo has Optical then.

any word on the new ps neo doing 1080/60fps ? as im not gonna bother getting it if it cant cope with that. not too fussed about 4k.

The minimum resolution is 1080p30. That's mandated by Sony. And if the base games are that now (with the exception of a few like Battlefield) then there's no reason why not. Unless the devs go mad with extra graphical upgrades. Or we start to see a new phase where base PS4 games are going to generally be 900p30 and then 1080p30 on Neo but with the same graphical fidelity. I don't know whether the CPU will still cause bottlenecks.

Hmm :( the only reason i would want to upgrade is to get a nice smooth 60 framerate (i really do detest 30fps, especially on faster action games)

im not a pc snob by any means, but to me the difference is massive.

i'll wait for reviews i guess. i know that devs can patch 60fps into the game, but that would be up to them. whether or not they'd do it though.

Same. I'd much rather have 900p 60fps than 1080p 30fps.

That won't be happening on Neo. 1080p30 is the minimum. The only other thing they said is that the Neo version of the game has to match or exceed the base game's frame rate.

I forgot that the Neo also ought to be doing 4K (maybe at 3200x1800 which is a bit less).

So if a developer chooses to keep the same graphical fidelity on a game, you could have

i) 900p30 on base PS4
ii) 1080p60 on Neo
iii) 1800p30 on Neo

If they choose to alter the graphical fidelity then it could be

i) 1080p30 on base PS4 with "base level" graphics
ii) 1080p30 on Neo with "high/ultra level" graphics
iii) 2160p30 on Neo with "base level" graphics

There are all kinds of permutations that realistically we won't know until the games are in Digital Foundry's hands. :p

Have to agree, since gaming on a PC capable of 60fps 1080p - its night and day clear difference.

I know some games like Drive Club work well at 30fps, but bloodborne frame pacing was a bit off putting at times. Much prefer a solid framerate over anything else since knowing what solid 60fps feels like after PC gaming for quite a few months..

As for optical, I use HDMI for all my audio needs, so never used the PS4 Optical.

I used optical on my PS3 to an AMP and that provided me 5.1, but since moved to a better HDMI AMP so no longer use Optical myself.

Think it looks abit pap if that is a true image of a slim, personally I'd like a smaller design and the ps4 not inside it as imo would improve airflow and heat but also give more freedom to design something not fugly

The pictures aren't doing it justice. The guy that owns it said it's much better in reality and it feels like a solid bit of kit, not plasticky like it looks.

There was actually a video of the console working on Eurogamer a couple of hours ago and it did look better than those pictures make it look. But 15 minutes ago Eurogamer removed it after taking legal advice.

Okay, Friday just gone I wake up to four e-mails claiming I've made various PSN purchases. It is immediately evident some little scrote has been playing around with my account and making unauthorised purchases. No biggie, I thought, PayPal and PSN between them will sort it out.

Get in touch with the Twitter profile, @ASKPS_UK for help and in the first instance, they were very credible. I got to chat online to a helpful member of staff who some cancelled the charges (yet they're still pending on my PayPal), and advised me to change my password, log out and back in, and reactive my PS4 as my primary machine.

All dandy..

Until Saturday where PSN have locked me from my account, suspending me on no accountable basis. That was, until about five minutes ago, when I receive the below e-mail;

The Twitter help page has been pretty much ignoring me and a few other guys who have been having the same problem.

I'll give them a call tomorrow (closed now, in the UK), but has anyone else been having this? Kinda worried I'm going to lose my stuff, especially since all my content is downloaded (I buy 90% of my games digitally).

Any advice welcome... Thanks.

I think I'd get in touch with BBC Watchdog if they won't budge after you call them. They've taken Sony to task before. It's important in this day and age when people could be spending ££££ on digital purchases that Sony investigate these things fully before just banning people's account willy nilly.

Just out of curiosity, do you have any idea on how anyone could get access to your PSN account? Was the password something easy? Do you use it on multiple websites? Have you got a security question and answer set up on the SEN account webpage?

And finally, I know it doesn't help you now but will people STOP STORING PURCHASE DETAILS ON THEIR PSN ACCOUNTS! Use prepayment cards only. Delete your credit card. Delete your PayPal. At least until they bring in two factor authentication.

They've already told me that my account was okay and the charges were going to be refunded, as per the below. So I really don't know where their change of heart has come from?

Looks like they won't even budge...;

Passwords are similar but not identical.
