*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

I actually thought about making a video, as that seemed like the logical way to escalate this problem! Genuinely concerned consumer right now.

You should. People need to know how Sony deal with these things. They still have time to put it right, but you shouldn't be losing all of your digital content for being hacked.

Have you used any sort of code sites or "account with game installed" type deals?

None of those sorts of sites, not at all.

I've messaged Kotaku UK with my issue, along with the screen grabs and asking if they would be able to escalate this by way of an article. Not expecting much from it, but it's a start.

Sony are really doing my head in with this nonsense. They need to sort it out. Suley they have the tools to identify the user location when gaming or the ip address. Unless they are sure then they shouldn't perm ban your account.

Well first give them a call like you said you would tomorrow, if there are circumstances leading up to that which can be documented then surely they'll understand. At the moment you are assuming that they will not accept your case.

If after that then make all the fuss you can but at least speak to them first to get all the facts.

Not only that but if they have banned your account, you should be entitled to a full, transparent report of why they have done so. Not this "oh, customer services will give you a general idea why" nonsense.

True but after a) reading the e-mail saying an appeal wouldn't be possible and b) reading their terms and conditions, it's not looking likely.

However I see your point and will indeed contact them.

The bigger issue I see, however, is that they're able to get away with this. Even if/when my case is resolved, there's a massive amount of confidence I've lost in their brand.

Loads of people in same boat, you always hear about it on neogaf they lose everything on account.

Hope you get it sorted mate, that is devastating. There seems to be huge fiasco with sony lately, random purchases, account locks, bans, authorized spending etc.

What IS going on? It's all over Playstation subreddit.

I think the reason this is so prevalent at the moment is because Neverwinter's purchasable virtual currency is providing an easy way for people to transfer purchased currency out of the stolen account and into another, similar to how FIFA points were always exploited in a similar way in the past.

Most likely people have been sitting on PSN accounts they could have potentially gained access to at any time until an opportunity like this came along where it was now worth while exploiting it. The actual PSN accounts were most likely compromised through people re-using passwords on services which have had their security breached, or through good old fashioned social engineering. What makes it worse is PSN's lack of two factor authentication, which if in place would most likely be preventing access to almost all of these compromised accounts.

Thankfully two factor is almost here so this should hopefully be a thing of the past shortly... this doesn't help people like wingman but I'm sure it will be resolved for them once they speak with Sony tomorrow (despite Sony actions and response so far being appalling).

Wow, it really is truly outstanding that Sony are so behind on security. The recent influx of PSN account breaches has resulted in me removing any form of possible payment from my PSN account.

Its just way too risky to keep any payment details attached to a PSN account.

I really do hope the poster that got his account banned gets this sorted, I've read loads of reports of folks getting banned and then finally getting their accounts back but it takes time, and its the headaches that go with it, and the worry.

Sony need to sort it ASAP, but then haven't we all been saying this for like well forever?

Cant wait to see 2factor on PSN, I hope its well integrated so you can use a authenticator like google to get a pin and not have to use a generated app password.

Hopefully 2FA will be added in the next major update, 4.0 is not far off now.

It's SMS only, already available in New Zealand and Australia as a test. We are supposed to be getting it by the end of this week if it works (!) properly there.

Here's a slim unboxing video. It looks damn thin! Not iPad thin. But thin for a console. Note the new DualShock 4 which has a thin light strip just above the touchpad so you can see it now. I hope they have improved the battery life of the damn thing though. (Did I say damn and thin enough?)

As if the current one wasn't infuriating enough! Wish they would add an option to turn it off, drives me mad all you can see when playing games is the reflection of the damn light bar!
