Just got a PS5 slim disc version from Smyth's toys booted it up and your can hear the fan spinning round and almost like a slight ticking/knocking sound from it.

Is this normal for the slim ?

Not loaded a game up yet so not sure how the fans will be then.

Does not seem normal, our OG PS5 is quiet for the most part and ramps up during long gaming periods. Loud fan noise but no rattle or ticking. Might be worth gaming and seeing if it gets worse or improves before doing anything else.

Has anyone bought a USB stick to store and run PS4 games from? Any recommendations or requirements (the PS5 website suggests that USB 3.0 is fine?)

This seems to be the fastest drive I've come across from a quick scroll down ***elsewhere***:

*** competitor link removed ***

Edit: maybe I can save a bit actually as apparently the PS4 had a HDD speed of around 100MB/S and that drive is 600MB/S! https://www.techradar.com/news/should-i-buy-an-ssd-for-my-ps4-or-ps4-pro#:~:text=The PS4 and PS4 Pro hard drives deliver read and, maximum speeds above 550MB/s.

I wouldn't Personally go for a usb stick, whilst the headline transfer speeds are good that's only normally for sustained transfers, random transfers can be a lot more variable.

I've personally got a crucial x6 usb SSD which has been pretty good, and is fast enough that you can transfer PS5 games to it quickly for storage (but obviously can't play) if you run out of room on the internal storage or nvme

Tekken 8 ranked is full of pathetic players! So many thst leave mid game as soon as they're losing and who won't rematch it they just manage to beat you, just take their points and run!

I got a ps5 slim digital the other week, booting up and on the Home Screen it’s virtually slilent, the only times the fans are noticeable is when I start a game.

It happens less the higher you get, at least rage quitting as people not rematching is still somewhat common in Purple ranks. Granted Purple is not that high but there's a mix of good players and those who got there by knowledge-checking and the latter bunch will usually one-and-done if they feel they might get figured out.

Just typical FGC, you'll get used to it:p Ranked is there just to pair you up with people of similar skill and some treat it too seriously sometimes.

As a general rule though, the guys who are in high ranks are usually those who rematch and learn from that.

Quite ironic that people mention tweaking pc games. I foolishly bought dead space (about a month before it came on gamepass  ) and played 15 mins last night. Very stuttery and I'm using a 3700x and 6900xt which I'd say is mid to high range these days and at 1080p it was stuttering like mad. A quick Google tells me it's not that uncommon, it's what I hate about pc gaming sometimes:mad:. Currently playing sonic frontiers on the ps5 and quite enjoy ot but the texture point is atrocious and the controls can be a bit **** sometimes. I've tried to play South park stick of truth as its free on psn, but I think I'm too old for it as I just cba with it.

Unless it's especially cheap I'd suggest putting the money towards an M.2 drive instead.

I use a 4Tb WD Passport with all my PS4 titles on it and it works perfectly. PS4 titles are not optimised to used SSD/Flash memory so its pretty pointless to use them. IIRC i seem to remember some games such as The Witcher 3 that had issues when using a SSD as it loaded the map to quickly and you got nasty odd textures for a short while when you fast travelled.

Transferring all the games off my existing 1TB M2 drive onto an external 2TB SSD went without a hitch. I then installed the new 2TB M2 into the PS5 and copied everything back over without any issues. It is a smooth, fast process providing you have a speedy external.

Some games won't see much benefit but many others like RDR2 have much improved loading times when run from an SSD, DF did plenty of testing a few years back. The obvious benefit of going M.2 instead of external is that it can be used for PS5 games too.

Yeah i forgot to mention that i also have a 4Tb NVME as well  So plenty of room for the odd game that does benefit.

I am STILL waiting/hoping/praying for a PS5 version/Patch of RDR2, even if its just a refresh to use 60FPS to play through again... Looks like i will be waiting for a long time still despite all the rumours.. :(

It's beyond pathetic that this hasn't happened yet really. I finished a replay of RDR2 last November and whilst it is still gorgeous, panning around at <30fps is a painful experience. It is sad that they choose to ignore such a beautifully crafted world - imo one of the best out there.

I'm surprised they haven't released a PS5 version for 60 quid rather than release a free PS5 patch. Rockstar always feels like, whilst they make incredible games, they would sell their gran if it could make them a few quid.

I might consider adding more storage to my ps5 slim in the future, I take it the ps5 slim doesn’t need the default storage replacing, it’s just a case of using the extra slot.
I guess it’s a bit like series x with the expandable storage card.

Do you play all games off the expandable storage and keep the ps5 default storage free for just apps or should it make no difference?

I install games to the M.2 SSD by default, the internal SSD already takes a beating from the constant writes from the gameplay capture feature.

Might look into one, gather I need one with a heatsink.
Most seem to be around the £100+ mark for a 2tb, might wait till I see some offers on.

Not reading up much on the storage side of things, I presumed it was like the older gen consoles where you swapped out the hard drive altogether, didn’t realise the ps5 had an extra slot inside.
