So straight after saying I've never had stick drift I get stick drift.

Of course I do.

Reset had no effect and the gamepad site shows erratic drift. Sigh.

At least this controller was a separate purchase and doesn't turn 1 until the end of November so warranty should be fine.

I have the original white one still unused so at least that can tide me over.

That's part of the problem - there isn't really anything coming out until next year. I've got an eye on Metaphor ReFantazio ... but I'm sure it'll run just fine on the base PS5. Some people are looking forward to Silent Hill 2, but I'm not that interested. Perhaps the Indiana Jones ( in December ) might be fun ; it's an Xbox game but available on all major platforms including Playstation. Can't think of a lot else off the top of my head right now.

I’m sort of in 2 minds, thinking about cancelling preorder and getting one next year, but be nice to have it at launch to play a few older games with the pro enhancements, may decide a lot nearer to release.

I think it makes a lot more sense to buy one early/mid next year once we have a better idea of what games are coming and will support the PS5 Pro features. Of course, if you have a large backlog of games eg. HZD, Last of Us, God of War, Ratchet & Clank etc then there is value in getting one at launch. But I think most of us have already played and beaten the majority of those games. It doesn't look like it's going to be hard to pick one up at short notice.

Yeah, that’s where I’m at. I’d need to see games improved that I play regularly or new games I want to buy benefitting from it before ordering. Not super hyped by the titles that have been announced so far.

The way I see it is that it’s a new graphics card which will last me a while. Not a huge leap but a definite improvement on what I have now. Considering the prices of graphics cards I feel like I’ve got off lightly!

That’s the way I see it. Everyone seems to have their knickers in a twist over the price but just wait until Nvidia announce pricing for the upcoming RTX 5000 video cards……..!

Then £700 for a complete console system will look like pocket change compared to what it’ll cost to build a PC with an RTX 5080/5090 in it!

Customers will just not buy either until prices come down or these companies will have to send them all to landfill.. If people kept their wallets in their pockets when things are clearly overpriced, these companies will correct the price.. but FOMO rules in this hobby and well these are the results.. I don't buy anything that I don't consider it is worth what they are asking for it.. PS5 PRO to me is not worth it and a disgusting way they are testing the waters and making sure PS6 starts at £800 with a drive if it even comes with one out of the box or even a stand......

Yup. Looking forward to actually getting one! Putting a couple of games on hold while I wait for the console.

A few games I dropped too which I’m going to revisit!

yawn,
not 'clearly' overpriced when people are buying them
not worth it to you - ok fine, but 'disgusting'? lol
not everyone wants a drive
ps4 didn't come with a stand, or ps3, 2, 1. PS5 doesn't even need one.

Bless.
It's selling just fine from the number of posts on various social media sites where people started pre-ordering them last week.
Once again - Sony are aiming for the Pro to make up 15% - 20% of the install base. It is not aimed at everyone, the standard PS5 will still be the console most people have.
It was not aimed at you. You shouldn't take offence at this.

You keep telling yourself that

You keep telling yourself that
I don't understand your response.
Things we know for a fact:

1. Loads of people on many social media platforms have posted screen shots of them pre-ordering a PS5 Pro. People were queuing on the official site early as some were not aware of the start time for sales. The site crashed more than once due to demand.
There are also loads of pre-order people from 3rd party sellers (where PlayStation direct isn't available).
Additionally, third party sellers can start taking pre-orders from October 10th (where PS Direct is available) - many people stating they are waiting for those as they have credit at Amazon for example or can get staff discounts.
We know that lots of people are buying this.

2. We know for a fact that Sony do not expect the Pro to become the model that most people buy. They have already stated that they expect it to occupy the same kind of installation as the PS4 Pro - which was between 15% - 20% of the install base.
They have stated it was not aimed at everybody. That the PS5 base model is the one that will sell most and will be owned by most people on the PS5 platform.
Again, this isn't me "telling myself" - this is direct from Sony

3. You still seem to be taking offence that the Pro wasn't aimed at you and I don't understand why.

There are several compelling reasons why the upcoming PS5 Pro might be considered overpriced at £700:
  1. High Initial Cost Compared to PS5: The standard PS5, at launch, was priced at £450, making the Pro version significantly more expensive without drastically different gaming experiences for casual players.
  2. Minor Performance Improvements for Most Gamers: While the PS5 Pro might offer enhanced graphics, faster load times, and more power, for the average gamer, these improvements may not justify an additional £250, especially if they're already satisfied with the PS5’s performance.
  3. Price Competition with Gaming PCs: At £700, many gamers may start comparing the PS5 Pro to gaming PCs, which can be more versatile, upgradeable, and offer access to a broader range of games at competitive prices.
  4. Ongoing Availability of Standard PS5: The PS5 is still a powerful console and is expected to remain relevant for several years, meaning that many consumers may prefer sticking with the cheaper model, especially if games remain compatible across both versions.
  5. Lack of Exclusives Requiring PS5 Pro: If there aren’t any exclusive games or features that truly leverage the PS5 Pro’s enhanced capabilities, it might be hard for gamers to justify spending the extra money.
  6. Potential for Future Price Drops: With time, consoles typically experience price cuts. Early adopters may feel frustrated if the PS5 Pro sees a drop in price or bundles appear shortly after launch, making it a risky purchase for those hoping for long-term value.
  7. Peripheral Costs: At £700, consumers might also expect additional features like larger storage or bundled peripherals. Things like not even including a disc drive. If peripherals aren't included, it could make the price feel less justified.
  8. Inflation and Economic Considerations: In a time where the cost of living is rising, many may question the necessity of investing in a luxury item like the PS5 Pro at such a high price, making the affordability a key concern for a large portion of the market.
These factors could make the PS5 Pro’s price tag of £700 appear steep, especially for those already satisfied with current-generation gaming options.

There are several compelling reasons why the upcoming PS5 Pro might be considered overpriced at £700:
  1. 2. etc. ... Lots of reasons why ps5 pro won't appeal to the casual/average gamer, which isn't the target market at all.
These factors could make the PS5 Pro’s price tag of £700 appear steep, especially for those already satisfied with current-generation gaming options.

This made me think, as I sort of fall in this category.

I alredy own, just never got round to playing, the PS5 versions of:

Demon Souls
R&C
God of War Ragnarok
Last of us 1 and 2
HZW
FF7 remake (both parts!).

I'm very tempted to play these big hitters on the Pro. They will all get graphical upgrades, I'm certain.

Originally the high price put me off, I can afford it with ease, but the disparity compared to PS4 Pro release annoyed me. But I'm too old to try to make some sort of principled stance and gaming hasn't really gone up in price a massive amount since PS1 days.

I'm suddenly feeling an itch, and it's still available to pre order on Sony direct Spain!
