The Official Prometheus (Alien Prequel) Thread

Intresting little vid. Apparently laser fusion is only a year or two away so I believe some of his predictions. Maybe not the androids though.

well we can perform fusion now, both inertial confinement (laser) the magnetic confinement (toruses) and non confined (thermonuclear bombs)

the problem is con fining it, then harnessing it, both of which are a long way off.

hopefully when ITER is finished we will see some excellent advances but i wouldn't hold out hope for such a soon date :p.

I think the tore supra is the current record holder, able to maintain a plasma burn for six minutes.

Iter isn't probably due to fire up until 2019, should be impressive when it does and we sure could use it.

Wonder how much power it would generate over a typical fission reactor.

Edit seem s a typical reactor is 200Mw, iter is geared up to produce 500Mw

Impressive if they pull it off.

Anyway back to prometheus.

Only problem is that trailer revealed faaaaar too much and I feel I can probably hazard a good guess as to what is going to happen and why now :(

Was thinking the same...something along the lines of...find old symbols, find planet location, think they've found something awesome, realise they've messed up really bad, aliens trace locations of earth, send ship out to destroy earth, prometheus follows, stops it, ship crashes on lv426...Alien!!!

In the meantime i'm guessing Noomi Rapace gets impregnated by an Alien judging from a few shots/screams.

Oh yeah, did anyone notice the very Alien/Queen looking bio-mechanoid thingy on the wall about 1:36 :D

I must stop watching trailers!

EDIT: Having watched it again, there is a shot of Prometheus hitting the Alien ship, so maybe the planet itself is LV-426 before something really bad happens.

Yeh noticed the alien queen type thingy. Seriously hyped about this and the film just looks esthetically amazing. Really don't think ridley will blow it, im usually pretty realistic about movies and what trailers do for there marketing but i have a seriously good feeling about this.

I hope that this is an instant classic, something that has sci-fi relevance for years to come and starts the ball rolling for somewhat of a comeback for the genre, if any one can spear head such a comeback then this is the director/franchise that could possibly do it.

Just thought i would add.

So no pressure ridley but if you do **** it up ill plague you with hate mail for the rest of your life and hunt you down like a lowly dog!!

Hopefully they'll release both versions at the cinema or I'll be waiting for the Director's Cut BR in December/January. This is not a kids film and shouldn't be watered down to the extent that school children can watch it

That's the way is these days, sadly. Maximise profits n all that. On the plus side, directors can get away with more violence and shocks, that never would have been allowed when the 12 certificate was first introduced.
