The Official Prometheus (Alien Prequel) Thread

The only thing that bothers me with the look is the actors and space suits look very clean and a bit too colourful. Alien and Aliens had a rugged look to everything which really helped to set the scene.

This was a question that came up in the Q&A with Ridley and Damon.

They sort of glossed over it a bit but Damon did mention that the Nostromo was a mining ship. Whereas Prometheus is a heavily funded science mission. And if the speculation is to be believed: Peter Weyland has a personal vested interest in the mission (i.e. to achieve immortality) and so no expense would have been spared on equipping the mission with the best kit.

Ridley said he just didn't want to do a "grunge sci-fi" movie again. As he has already Alien and Blade Runner in his portfolio.

Yeah, that seems to be common for prequels that are made a long time after the original film/s. Look at Star Wars. :o

I think new films have to appeal more to broader range of people, so they are made to look shiny and new, to attract said people.

It would be good if they could keep with the same look and feel, but a dated look will put a certain amount people off. Films are there to make the investors money, so they will go with whatever will make them the most money.

Edit: NathanE's post does make sense. But the over all look, it's still going to look considerably more polished and more shiny than Alien did.
