The Official Prometheus (Alien Prequel) Thread

I saw the midnight showing in 3D. The 3D wasn't spectacular - so I might give that a miss, however it was the midnight showing so my eyes were tired.

Overall a great film - not up to the standard of Aliens, but a great film none the less.

I reckon the writer forgot he was witing for a film and not an opening episode of a 5 series tv story arc.

He wrote the screenplay for Cowboys & Aliens, and look how that turned out. :o

He has written the screenplay for the upcoming Star Trek sequel. Oh dear. :(

Maybe he should stick to TV shows. :p

Lost was **** so he should just **** off all together to be fair :p:D:p

I enjoyed it.. obviously some people didn't but I don't agree with some of the points highlighted above, some of them are explained IMHO

Very good film,
Some glaring mistakes, why did they break the storyline/universe. They could have easily kept to the story. Like having the alien explode out when he was in the navigation seat.

Just got back.

I only got Sc-fi on the cinema. Couldn't think of anything else, for some stupid reason i had mass effect 2 running through my head. But iv'e never played it, just going by the screen shots, a character thing.

Would have been about 20 minutes from the end when i started to engage, that and when idris explained it all.... i just didn't get it before hand.

Im guessing that was either for dunces like me, or those like me that were half asleep.

Fassbender, what a fine fellow, mighty fine.

Lost was awesome and so was this film! Just because you heathens dont understand either doesnt make them rubbish!

99% of the films that came out lately were doodoo so this is 5star in comparison!

Just been to see this and it was amazing, what some people seem to see as plot holes are just their lack of understanding of the story.

Been waiting for this for years and it delivered everything I wanted - why would anyone want just another alien film.

Can't wait for the Directors Cut !

Down to personal opinion I guess, Scott has made more than 4 good movies.

Body Of Lies
Matchstick Men
Black Hawk Down
Hannibal
Gladiator
GI Jane
Black Rain
Blade Runner
Alien

I hesitate to add Legend :D

I'm not going to defend Prometheus, I don't need to, those who don't like it, fair enough, that's their opinion. I got what I wanted, i'm happy, the 3 year wait was worth it. :D

Was just about to say that myself actually - because Woody had quoted the "4 good films out of 29" a couple of times. For me - I actually think he made 6 really good movies.

And what woody was also failing to point out - was that there are very few Directors who have 4 good ones, in most of the top 50 movies of all times lists - or more importantly 2 movies in the top 10 movies of all time lists.... ;)

Thankyou, i've yet to see a plot hole pointed out that doesn't have an explanation if you'd paid enough attention or was deliberately left ambiguous ;)

I think much of this was left unanswered as they are planning a few sequels, they just need to get rid of Lindelof for the next ones.

Just got back from the cinema and I was not dissapointed, In my mind this sits very well in the Alien universe and am chomping at the bit for more.

Awesome film, thankyou Mr Scott :)

Just got back from seeing it at Centertainment, Sheffield. I massively regret seeing it in the IMAX theatre. It was my first IMAX experience and it seems to be a gimmick for making cinema better for people with no attention span or imagination.

I was about half way up and had to stuff tissue in my ears as the audio was harmfully loud (must have been configured incorrectly). Panning shots were blurred and out of focus, in fact, everything was out of focus. Very poor black levels and there where spotlights reflecting off the back of the 3d glasses. The 3d elements were difficult to focus on and looked ridiculous. It's an insult to the heritage this movie was built upon.

If you really want to enjoy this film see it in 2D in a regular theatre. I still enjoyed it despite being unable to relax into it so that is a good sign! I'll go again so I can appreciate it fully.

I enjoyed it. There were unanswered questions, though once I started watching it was apparent it wasn't going to be a one off film and there would be more to come. Though there do seem to be some things in this thread that people want explaining in the minutest detail...... which confuses me. Some because I guess they think you will be able to figure it out yourself and others because they aren't that important and if they explained every tiny little thing the film would start to be slow and boring.

I certainly wasn't expecting another 'Alien' or even 'Aliens', I think that would have been an impossible task. I enjoyed it, it was entertaining. I didn't go to see it in 3D, so can't make any comment on that aspect. I've yet to decide if the 3D aspect is worth making me go and see it again.
