The Official Prometheus (Alien Prequel) Thread

yeh it all leads to the extended edition being essential to make sense of it.

tbf though, the theatrical release of alien 3 was full of holes and even aliens. the directors cut fills them.

What were the Engineers running from

Why doesn't anyone realise that all vehicles are still there even though two of their colleagues are meant to have left a while ago?

On the CCTV panel David finds green sticky substance. Very much like the one our classic Xenomorph leaves all around the place. Considering the images on xenomorphs everywhere around vase chamber and the fact biologist and geologist later on find high pile of bodies that look like they wre "opened up from inside, like they exploded" we can easily imagine what got out.

Interestingly, when David triggers the panel we see crowd of Engineers running away from something. Prometheus crew runs after the "footage" and see how the last of the running Engineers stumble few times then tries to hide in vase/giant face room but "looses his head". A simple replay arranged by David and following the crowd would eventually show them how many there were, where they ended up and possibly even what happened to the rest of the running Engineers, but somehow, this isn't of interest to anyone for the rest of stay on LV-233.

As for the vehicle question. When both Shaw, Holloway, doctor Ford and David emerged from the bunker, the transporter was already driving towards prometheus in front of them, therefore they presumed Fifield and Milburn were already onboard of that transporter. Considering there were only six crewmen in tunnels, it is unclear who drove transporter and how it got back. And I have to say, I missed it despite watching the movie now twice.

It isn't good goo. It even adds to the idea that we are created from this destructive method, which when we evolve from that strand in The water, I means we on base level in some kind of way, are inherently destructive to our environments.

This is my take on it.

My only question is - why did the original engineer destroy itself? That has no basis as I don't equate to a superior race accidentally leaving someone behind.

£40?!?!!?!?

Yeah, standard Imax tickets are £16, but they do 'couples seats' that are bigger and have no arm rest in between you and yer missus, these are £19.50 each....

I dont mind paying that to be honest, its the biggest screen, best seats and in 3D - just a shame the movie isnt living up to the hype :(

Ridley has said that the intro scene could be any planet. It's not necessarily earth. I don't think that "single strand of DNA" that you see is particularly relevant. Particularly when knowing its not necessarily earth. I think that whole sequence is trying to show that he basically "cremated" himself into the water. And the actual intent is that the DNA is broken back down to its basics to allow a new form of life to take hold.

Also if you look at the concept art:

It looks like the original idea was for some other race of even more human-like beings to be there during the sacrifice.

This thread is full of spoilers!

Anyway, I thought the film is great. The fact that it left lots of things ambiguously is a refreshing change from most blockbusters and definitely a positive in my book.

I also thought the effects were superb, there wasn't really a moment in the film where I doubted the authenticity of something.

Both thumbs up from me!

Just come back from watching the film and I've read through parts of this thread. What is clear to me is that the plot has lots of significant plot holes. What I've not seen mentioned and perhaps it's already been addressed is...

When David (Michael Fassbender) talks the engineer in the language of the engineers there are no subtitles, therefore we don't know exactly what he said.

Earlier in the film, David said something like "don't we all want to see our parents die" or something to that effect.

Weyland said in the 3D intro that David is like his son, implying a father son relationship.

So, is it possible that David said something to the Engineer unknown to the audience or the other crew members that orchestrated the deaths of them all, including himself?

I get the impression there is a huge amount that was cut from the cinema version which will make its way into the Blu-Ray release - stuff that would have answered a lot of questions and might possibly have prevented a lot of reviews from being glowing.

Guess they aren't done with the virals on this movie yet?!?

http://www.whatis101112.com/

My guess it's the date the DVD/Blu-ray is out :D

Assuming that's an American formatted date... that's a Thursday. So it would be the first DVD/BluRay in history to be launched on a Thursday. That, or hinting it's something else.

Comic-Con NY starts on 11th October.....

If it's a British formatted date, then it's a Saturday... say no more!

Scott and Lindelof between them have already confirmed that around 30 minutes were cut for a softer rating

Anyway, i'm off to watch this for the second time tonight, really excited :D

Missed the window to see this in IMAX 3d. Is it really terrible? From the fair few people I have spoken to it seems a 50/50 split and a real Marmite movie. Is it 'better' in 3D than 2D did I miss something special in IMAX 3D? I get a lot of enjoyment from a movie in its visual and audio splender as much as the plot as long as it isn't shocking.
