The Official Prometheus (Alien Prequel) Thread

I cant believe that Avengers is still showing at my local Cinema, it still has 4 showings per day and thats been MONTHS since its came out.

Unless I'm being stupid, I don't see how that answers/solves the inability to legally watch this film at this moment in time.
Thus flaw.
Maybe I just don't know what you mean by flaw then?

It's certainly not a flaw in terms of making money, quite the opposite for obvious reasons. What are they supposed to do, sacrifice half their box office by releasing the DVD at or around the same time?

I don't think I've ever suddenly started caring about a film halfway between cinema release and DVD release.

Sure, consumer side it's not ideal, but then in the world of marketing almost nothing is done entirely for the benefit of the consumer. Movies, games, music, many times these will be ready to go long ahead of their release date. The entertainment industry release when it best suits their needs, not ours. Always has been that way, always will.

just watched the deleted scenes and they add a lot!
why the hell they were deleted from the film is anybodies guess - whoever made that decision is a moron.

whilst there are still lots of problems a new cut with the scenes included will actually be worth seeing (unlike the original :)).

The Engineer scenes are much more detailed with the talking sequence, Really makes the theatrical release look stupid now with the Engineer going mental for no good reason.

I understand they removed the Engineer vs Wayland and entourage scene for "mystery" and general "what-the-ef-ness", but the cut out scene makes so much more sense, we get to see why Engineer got angry and why he tore David to pieces like a little toy. Instead, after cutting it, Engineer was made to look like a psycho killer. Woke up, saw aliens in the bedroom, heard his language spoken by them and launched into range and fury chasing everyone across the set Friday 13th style. Facepalming omission that scene.

Also, Vickers' convo with daddy. So much better in cut out scene than in original you begin to wonder if Scott was still behind steering wheel in editing room. The cut out prologue is also better, takes away the questions - was proto-Engineer alone, was he banished, was it suicide, etc.

They had a mission to go to earth and wipe out humanity. Something goes wrong so they can't take off. Instead, when he wakes up, there are humans on board his ship.

Of course he's going to kill them!

Watch the deleted scenes, your perspective on it might change after seeing it and what exactly is said just before the Engineer goes boogaloo.

I watched the deleted scenes this weekend, along with the extras, alternate ending and a slightly different beginning. ;)

I agree they make the film make more sense for the most part, though one scene i can see why they deleted it.

Only just watched this, and I must I was disappointed.

I got the impression the film was being pushed in a similar direction to the original Alien film, but was a bit too light on the suspense for it to be anywhere close.

It wasn't silly enough to be Armageddon, or spectacular enough to be Avatar. As such, it just seems to be a bit of a nothing film, which is a shame, considering it's an attempt at serious sci-fi. I like the story, but the genre just seems to ave been coloured too much by the original's progeny. Weird, but sad.

Either way, I won't be bothering LoveFilm-ing it for the deleted scenes at it was a bit too dull to warrant a second screening.

I'll still watch the sequel, however, assuming I can watch it for free.

I was reading the IMDB forums for this movie and someone made a long post pointing out all the problems with the movie. The ones I can remember which are not minor problems and ones i thought of myself.

The mapping guy gets lost on his way back to the car and ends up sleeping next to alien worms and treating them like a harmless animal. Not very scientific from any of the people who are meant to be scientists.

Why was weyland daughter (theron) even on the ship, the excuse that she was there because she did not want to sit around and wait 4 years.

They fornicate on a new planet when they have people sleeping in an alien ship and they leave no one on the comms and no one even thinks of listening to the comms before they all go and check it out.

Two scenes seemed incomplete, the first one is the guy who was infected and started shooting everyone, we never saw the end of that scene, no one talked about it again, how many people died etc. The other one was when the main girl has the staples in her stomach, firstly she does not shut the room door when she runs away, secondly she enters the room and no one even asks her about the alien that just came out of her stomach. Then she wants to immediately put a suit on and go outside. Why the rush, the guy could wait an hour or two and they could have all sorted out the alien.

The ending when they could have just ran to the side and not get squashed. Also how we saw a ship leaving the planet right at the end which means they just skipped all the story that involved them leaving the planet, that could have been the next movie.

After second consideration i would have to give this movie a 5/10.

^ bit late to the party, aren't we  They've all been discussed to death already :p

So I'm confused. RS said there would be NO directors cut, but it seems there will be an extended version with the deleted scenes back in the movie...via a menu or something
