The Official Prometheus (Alien Prequel) Thread

There probably never will be

au contraire mon ami

In this day and age I'd say its almost certain in some shape or form. I'd give it 6 months or so before someone does a hashup of various edits into the film.

In a few years it might even look convincing though Ive no idea how they'd cover all the grubbins left in the edits, its surely possible to create an alternate version.
The mind will forgive a lot of absences and make up the difference itself, especially in a horror film it can largely be about what you dont see but fear. Would just take a few well placed blackened screens with eerie sound effects and a lot talent it could be good to see

I should have said I meant in any official capacity.

There are already 3 fan edits I know of floating about but all have taken liberties with other parts of the movie and re-edited existing sequences and so on.

My original point was that I highly doubt Fox will spend more money on this to polish the unfinished deleted scenes.

There probably never will be, a lot of the deleted scenes aren't even in a complete form so without going back and spending money on post production, it's unlikely we'll ever get a complete version of this movie.

That's what I've been saying since the beginning when people begging for a director's cut. So yeah, now that they're out there it certainly doesn't seem as though it'll happen.

Someone certainly will create an alternate version in the fan community, but I can't see FOX throwing money at a film when Ridley feels it complete. He already did a needless recut of the first Alien film at the behest of Fox when he said he felt the first version was definitive, I doubt he'll do it again.

ridley must be going senile if he thinks his final cut is acceptable - just comparing the final scene with the deleted one shows how badly edited that scene was in the final movie.

Two things I've been saying which I'll once again repeat:

One: I told you so.

Two: he has only made SIX GOOD FILMS. This film is just another day at the office for him. He doesn't owe anyone anything; he's never exercised good judgement. Good behind the camera, poor at picking good scripts.

I watched Prometheus on Blu Ray and I enjoyed it more than I did at the cinema. I don't know why, maybe just the expectation at the time was too high.

Anyway, I watched the deleted and alternate scenes afterwards, but I didn't feel that any of them would add anything to the film if you consider there is going to be a sequel. I agree with Ridley Scott, as it is, the film is complete. I'd still like to see an extended cut at some point, but I don't feel its necessary.

My opinion of the film has changed after seeing it a second time and watching the extra features. I still love the visuals of the movie and the insane detail, but now I'm starting to agree that the film is missing a lot of coherance.
A lot of scenes should not have been taken out, and it's evident that the the original script changed dramatically at the start and throughout filming - Ridley making things up as he goes along - and also bringing in Damon Lindelhof to add his own "perspective". The editor can also share some blame.

I think Ridley would make a fantastic Production designer with his eye for detail... but directing... not so sure now.

Script wise, the bunch of scientists were awful, not following any scientific protocol on the trillion dollar mission, it just doesn't make any sence at all.
So many holes, aliens that didn't make sence, scenes that didn't make sence either.

I was very let down by this film.

After seeing the deleted scenes the only one I liked and would have been good in the movie was the alternate scene of the engineer attacking Shaw in the lifeboat. That scene was amazing and it should have been in the movie. I don't "get" Ridley's reason for cutting it, which was some BS about it "reducing" the strength of the engineer. It's not like a few axe blows hurt him or slowed him down very much is it?

The alternate beginning was crap. I much prefer there being just the lone engineer there. Much more spooky.

It's pretty clear he or Fox pulled back on revealing all the plot points in the movie because everyone could see a sequel on the cards. A sequel can explain some things a lot better.

End of the day though it is sci-fi. There is not always a conclusive answer to everything. You just have to believe and/or theorise.

The underlying reason some fans are disappointed by the movie is because, well, it was a movie that ended up playing out exactly how we suspected it would. Fans have been discussing for years how the "derelict" was perhaps carrying a biological warfare weapon. And well, it seems Ridley thought that was a good idea for a movie... Why all the faux disgust and surprise that he took it down that route? It's basically what we were all asking for, for 30 years...!
