***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

Hi Guys,

Been playing around with getting temps right for my Q6600 I am using an Abit IP35 Pro, and a Thermalright SI-128 in an Antec Sonata Case. I originally had a push pull with a 120mm pushing from the front over my Hard disks and another 120mm Pulling out back plus a 120mm on the HS itself.

At 3006ghz 334 x 9 I was getting 70/75 under load that was after 1hour with 4 Primes running

I then changed the back 120mm to a push so all of my fans are pushing this has reduced my temps to 61 under load is that still too high ?

I put the AS5 on the CPU as decribed on the AS site that is one long line across the CPU and then rotated the HS.

Can anyone suggest any ways of getting my temps down ?

Cheers

It's been warm today in Cumbria (for a change) and my temps have been up by 3-4 oC, so your 61 oc is fine, infact they are very good if you are using tat.

How much does it matter if Prime does show an error? The pc seem fine but when I ran prime it brought up an error on one of the cores after 9mins? I have the CPU a 3.2Ghz and the temps never go above 65c. Thanks for any help

Anyone with any sense will tell you that your computer should be able to run prime for a very long time without an error. If it errors it means your CPU is either too hot or having too much voltage for it to calculate prime numbers correctly. If it can't prime for 8 hours then you need to change some settings.

Hello this is my first intel build and so far im very impressed, i moved straight from a single core to the quad core so i got quite a shock. So i read thru a few of your posts and would like to know what size of an overclock can i expect from the standard hsf and the standard voltage?

my idle temps reported from speed fan are around 27-30c.

Darn im sorry but im new to the intel platform so erm is there anything i need to disable in bios for that type of overclock?
Nope just dial in the clock at stock volts, should be fine.

Keep speedstep enabled, no point running the thing at full pelt when its at idle and your not doing anything intensive.
