***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

Thanks for the help Chuchulain, I was still getting up to 65 at high point. I have since adjusted the fan's in the PC turn some round hopefully get get a better circulation and now I cap out at 58 over a 4 hours test.

I'm happy with the clock on this but the temps look a bit worrying. :(

I know it's not ideal but would it be o.k to leave it like that?
I really can't be assed with removing the heatsink again.

If you're happy with 3GHz, and any sound off the fans/heatsink, then those temps should be fine - though, I'd be a little more concerned about the difference between cores.

10+c would seem to indicate that lapping your h/s and/or cpu would be beneficial.

I'd leave it stressing overnight to see how temps are after 10 hours or so...

Hiya's,
This is my 1st Intel rig since a p120 (think it was a 120 lol)

Always had AMD since then but now got me a quad and i'm loving it :)

Bit of my new rig spec ...............

Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU

Abit IP35 Pro

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz

Thermalright SI-128 CPU Cooler

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5

Leadtek GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3

LiteON DH-20A3P-12C 20x DVD±RW x12 Ram Dual Layer DVD-Writer (Black) - OEM

Western Digital WD2500KS (need new one or maybe 2 asap)

All in a great ...........

Lian-Li PC-G70 Aluminum Mid Tower - Silver

Now i am running at 3.2 Tried to do a screeny with what most of you guys/gals use (software-wise i mean)

OCat3.2ghz.jpg

Anyways
Meat n Veg is as follows ..

CPU FPO# L725BO13

V-Core volt 1.3350v
Upped DDR volts to 2.0v
356x9 giving 3204

Sorry but gotta figure a sig out hence long winded post

Cheers

It sounds a bit risky to be scraping away on my CPU with sandpaper?

Is there a really easy guide anywhere on how to do it?

That's a good start.

You should post it in the Quad Database and update it as you go along.

Tho I'd update your version of Everest as it's giving some wrong readings :)

Hey guys
I am about to start OCing my G0.I have readed the sticky and this thread and I have a general idea of what to do.I want something around 3.2,dont want to stress the CPU and mobo too much, and I think that 3.2 would be fine for a starter.Anyway,I will probably set the FSB to 400,multi x8,Ram ratio at 1:1 so it can work fine with my Crucial 6400 sticks.Another option is to set the FSB to 355,multi x9,Ram ratio at ??Which one do you think is best,or they are all the same. And what about Cpu Voltage, what should I set that to?

3.2ghz should be very easy with a slight vcore increase, depending on the vdroop.

400x8 1:1 would be fine. Tho you may be able to run 4:5 at the memorys stock voltage and timings.

Whats vdroop?I already changed my memory to 2.2V and 4-4-4-12(was at 1.8,and 5-5-5-15).By lowering the multi and increasing the fsb wont I get higher temps than a standard x9 multi and ~350 fsb?And what do you mean by a slight vcore increase, cpuz shows 1.163V and Uguru shows 1.2750,which one is correct?

Is it the very latest version of CPU-Z (v1.41.0)?

You won't see much difference in temps running 400x8. Maybe a couple of degrees at most.

Vdroop is the difference between what the vcore is set to in BIOS and what it actually is in Windows. It'll drop again during load.

I just DLed the latest cpuz, now it shows 1.140 and 1.240.So you recommend using 400 fsb,8x multi and 1:1 but what about voltage? And If I also want to try with x9 multi and 350 fsb what ram ratio and voltage should I try? Thanks for your replies.

Only you can answer how much voltage will be needed for 3.2ghz. Every chip is different. But it shouldn't need much more than the VID (stock voltage). CoreTemp will tell you what the VID is.

Personally I would run 400x8 with the memory at 4:5, if your Ballistix can handle 1000mhz 4-4-4-12 without going above 2.25v.
