****The Official Road Bicycle Gallery Thread****

I present for your viewing pleasure a photo of my most newest bike - a Merida Scultura 400 Disc. I managed to get it for a little over £1,200, which I think represents decent value for a good aluminium frame, carbon fork and full Shimano 105 based bike. It even has a carbon seatpost.

My Kinesis winter bike shown in post 513 was my only road bike until recently and is built with Campagnolo so the full Shimano 105 on the Merida functions slightly differently. However, it is still intuitive if maybe not as crisp in use. I love the disc brakes and now want a winter bike with them!

I have made some small changes so far; I have fitted wheels from a Merida Reacto that are slightly deeper and wider, Continental GP5000 tyres that came with the new wheels, a different shape Merida saddle and Prime brake rotors and lockrings. I also have a narrower Deda Zero100 RHM bar to fit and I will tidy up the overly long cables and hoses when doing so.

I have only done a couple of hundred km on the bike so far and need to refine saddle and bar height. I really enjoy riding it; it is hugely more comfortable than my Kinesis and it feels quick.

No, the photo is taken looking north east from Chute Causeway to the north west of Andover. Semi-interestingly the Causeway is part of an old Roman Road between Winchester and Cirencester that deviates from a straight line on account of the terrain. Some good hills to the north of Andover!

yes exactly that just spins

If you take the hub apart, you will probably find the pawls are bust or jammed open. The pawls are just small sprung levers that engage on a toothed sprocket like a ratchet. In one direction, they ride over the ramp of the sprocket and the other direction they engage with the sprocket to give drive

First ride outdoors since having a baby. I do really enjoy the turbo trainer but there is no beating being out in the country side.

I also did everything wrong in this photo. None drive side and probably in the wrong gear.

Most of the summer will be gone by then!

Just ordered myself a pair of 303 firecrests. Should arrive tomorrow but the tyres won't be here until next week .
Yeah that is the point that makes me think I should order them sooner. Brand new baby this month has made it hard to justify though!

Oh sweet. I think I'm going to go for the 404 firecrests

The missus won't know the difference between your current wheels and the new ones!

I'll take a few pictures on my next ride to help you make a decision. ;)

Please do. I was trying to decide between the 303 and 404 but as I'm not good enough to really feel the benefit of either, I thought I'd go with the 404 as they look cooler... and looking cooler means faster, right?

If you put red stripes on them then definitely. Will make sure I get a nice picture on a nice day out in the beautiful countryside to really pile the pressure on. :p
