****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

the benchmarks i have seen including the two on this thread would indicate its not as snappy. making it inferior

Other than perhaps Flash, I dont think you'll really see a noticeable difference, the Benchmarks are all very close and they aren't in depth by any means.

I like most of you here think this is probably my next phone but....

My last samsung phone was the i8910i which had BEAST hardware but absolutely SHOCKING (i.e - almost none) support from Samsung. No doubt things have changed since then but once bitten and all that. I couldnt give a crap about quadrant scores really, it'll be plenty fast enough, thats for sure. What I'm mainly looking for in a phone is a good camera, good battery life, a good level of support...My upgrade is due next month, so debating getting this or waiting to see what apple come up in june/july....would prefer android tho...

A lot of people are beating the 'Samsung dont support products' drum, but as has already been mentioned, the other companies are no better.

HTC and Motorola for example are no better in this regard. If you dont buy this phone because it is a Samsung, you are just shooting yourself in the foot.

Whatever other phones come out, it wont have a screen that can even come close to matching this, and that is a huge part of the phone.

Agreed, but in terms of the specific phone I mentioned (i8910i) support was horrific. I cant say anything about other samsung smartphones becuase thats the only one I owned.

Other than that, my only concern is what the dev community will jump onto, as that played a big part in me choosing the desire that I'm using now.

Btw, what makes you so certain about nobody coming close to matching samsung's screen? (Genuine question)

Samsung make the screens, they have always had supply issues and have since stopped making them for other companies.

I'm almost certain there will be no other phone with a SAMOLED+ screen.

You can argue the iPhone 4 screen is superior and while excellent, its hardly better (and arguably worse) than a SAMOLED screen, nevermind a SAMOLED+ one!

I'll also add I think this will be the phone that XDA pick up too. However I still want it, even if they dont :p

Yeah, sAMOLED+ will be a clear market leader for a while. Sony have quality OLEDs too (check out that 5" monster for NGP) but they don't seem committed to sticking them on phones yet (pushing bravia enhanced sLCDs instead)

It's still early days but both have identical reference ARM A9 cores and similar performing GPUs. Tegra 2 will probably have better flash support while Exynos looks to have better image processing capabilities. Not much difference really and most would take smoother 1080p over better flash performance.

Flash performance in the browser is good even on single core phones like the Desire as I showed in my iPlayer video so it can only be even better on a dual core phone with a much better GPU like the SGSII. Non issue if ever there was one :p

What the Samsung does better by all accounts using what has been shown is 1080p video recording at 30fps constant with little to no blockyness even on a Youtube conversion!

Looks very impressive. I noticed a 'share via WiFi' shortcut in there too, interesting.

Personally, I generally value thin and light over build quality, so this looks appealing to me.

I don't think thats impressive... it seems delayed and laggy, UI seems hit or miss with touch.

No android phones come even close to a iphone for UI, I have owed both iphones and now a DHD, and as much as I love the DHD it's not quite there yet.

this video goes to show, you can chuck all the CPU GPU power in the world at a phone, but it doesn't make up for a wonky open source OS that is not device specific and a 'sitting over the top' fudged UI

Yeah if I do get this I won't be bothering with Touchwhiz. All overlayed launchers are laggy, even SenseUI - It's so easy to tell once you've used a launcher like LauncherPro or ADW EX or Go Launcher EX.

The phone is transformed when changing launchers in terms of speed and function and the LauncherPro rewrite will only further emphasise this!

So true Flukester, every time I use an IP4 or iPad - the first thing that jumps out to me is how fluid and quick the UI/responsiveness is! However, I think stock Android with LP will do be fine if I get the SGS2.

*cough* Power consumption *cough* ;)

More specifically, full hardware acceleration will increase the battery life from a couple of hours to 10+. (Just like relying on the cpu to decode HD vids etc)

You aren't wrong there regarding the iPhone and how fluent it seems compared to Android.

You can get Android that smooth but if you like customising, forget it.

Regarding tablets, I find the Galaxy Tab nowhere near as nice as the iPad to use, hopefully the new ones will be better with proper tablet software!

Yup. I mainly notice it when browsing in Safari. Even if the page isn't fully loaded and you've got checkerboard still there, scrolling and zoom is extremely quick and very fluid. It's very well optimised.

Could this be the release date?

"Release date: March 4th, 2011
Price: £549
Source: The Samsung Galaxy S was prematurely outed by another online mobile retailer, mobilefun.co.uk. Since realising the error, the page has been modified, with the price now reading TBC and the release date replaced with "not yet available"

That has already been mentioned several times I think rapid :p

Its certainly a very possible release date, so I hope its correct!

I spoke to Mobiles.co.uk and they think it will be March too.
