I see little point in justifying an upgrade from a last gen Android phone to this for a slightly better screen, Android 2.3, and 1080p recording. I mean how much is a second hand S-GS worth let alone something like my HTC Desire £180-200? It would leave you spending £350 for a small upgrade, if you really want 1080p then get a mini HD camcorder for £100 with better quality.
As for getting this on a 2 year contract you have to be insane, 24 months at likely £35-40pm? £840 over 2 years, SIM only with handset bought out right seems the best option and you are not tied in to some horrific deal.
Don't get me wrong I like these new handsets but I think phone pricing is getting out of hand, I got my Desire free on a £15pm contract last April when it was released, but networks are seriously beginning to take the pee pee with these prices.
If you got a free Desire for £15pm (assuming 24mth) when it was released you've done very well, most people were paying more than that. They were probably paying what they'll have to pay now to get the new SGS 2.
Unfortunately at the rate technology moves, you either have to spend money or suck it up and have old technology. You cant really take the stance of 'well a better one will be out in so many months' otherwise you'll never buy anything
I've not seen any £100 camcorder that does HD1080 with that kind of smoothness and detail.
Heck I have a 1080 Samsung camcorder and that pales compared to the SGS-II.
I don't think thats impressive... it seems delayed and laggy, UI seems hit or miss with touch.
No android phones come even close to a iphone for UI, I have owed both iphones and now a DHD, and as much as I love the DHD it's not quite there yet.
this video goes to show, you can chuck all the CPU GPU power in the world at a phone, but it doesn't make up for a wonky open source OS that is not device specific and a 'sitting over the top' fudged UI
I am actually on an 18 month contract, I would never take a 24 month contract unless at gunpoint by a Phones4U saleman I also think you missed my point, for people upgrading from last gen Android handsets this is simply not good value, next gen coming Q4 2011 maybe after all the manufacturers have to respond to the Jesus Phone 5.
Upgrading any technology isn't ever good value to be honest, you should really keep it for a good couple of years if you can, but meh, thats boring
So, £15 per month you say, for 18 months, on the release of a top selling popular phone? I assume you must have several other contracts in play with the network then or have some form of friends discount?

Oh sorry then, £135 for a small handheld camcorder. I really hope you are not saying the lens in that camera is better than a dedicated camera, it's a phone sensor and is tiny in comparison to a full size equivalent, I bet if you put the SGS2 it low light it will look junk.
It's a fixed lens so no it won't have the focusing speed or optical zoom capabilities of a sub £200 camcorder but the encoding quality and the sensor is definitely there (if not better).
Hell even the SGS at 720p is excellent in low light. Have you even used one? I don't think so.

Either your monitor is rubbish or your eyes if you think that looks bad.
And no, I'm going to enjoy whatever phone the XDA developers decide to focus on.
I hate when people pull this card...the majority of people carry their phones with them everywhere therefore it makes sense for them to have the best camera/features on the phone that they can...who wants to carry multiple devices for each purpose just in case they need it.
One of the guaranteed things people will do when a new phone comes out is try and put it down as best they can so they dont feel like buying it. It happens time and time again .
The SGS2 will be a flagship handset for at least 3 months, and I am sure lots of people will get great joy from it for hopefully longer than 9 months. Now that I think about it £550 is kind of crazy, you can buy a Dell Adamo Laptop with 128GB SSD for £498.00, do you upgrade you laptop every 9 months (if you own one).
