****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Quick question, unless im missing something theres 4 versions of the GS2:
Tegra 16Gb
Tegra 32Gb
Normal 16Gb
Normal 32Gb

Yet rarely do phone sites actually list which version they are selling...?

It seems that the Tegra version may also be the version with NFC, as both are only going to the Asian markets.

Either way though, the Exynos is an excellent chip that we have over here and given the relatively poor Android games I'd rather take extra CPU power than GPU power (if there is much of a difference at all).

Good afternoon. First post although I've been following this thread for as a source of information for what seems like half of my life!

Just to add my two-penneth on the T-mobile data speed cap. My other half ordered an Xperia Arc through Buymobilephones.net recently on a plan with "unlimited data". After reading about the cap on here I downloaded the speedtest app. Managed 0.1 meg at home and best of 0.3 meg while out and about yesterday.

I'll get her to ring and see if it's still possible to get the speed increased. I've just had my dispatch confirmation from BMP.net on the SGS2 18 month, £30 deal but may cancel if it's going to be capped.

The point that those benchmarks make is that the CPU on Tegra is slightly behind, but the GPU is quite far ahead.
So even at 1.2Ghz, the GPU will still be slower.

In all fairness, with the games landscape on Android atm, it makes no difference.

The problem with those reviews is that they used a demo/pre-production version of the phone, not just the 1GHz Exynos clock speed (and we don't know if the Mali cores are clocked differently now the chip is clocked at 1.2GHz, it's possible) but also running an early build of the software.

Also note that the Exynos is fps capped to 60fps, whilst the Tegra 2 I'm not 100% sure but iirc it's either uncapped or capped at 120fps, how much difference this would make to the benchmarks I have no idea, but if the average framerate is at 49fps like one of those benchmarks shows then the 60fps cap is most likely to have come into affect to limit the score.

How much optimisation has been done since then, both in the 3D Drivers and in by Adobe for flash is unknown, we really need to see some decent reviews between the SGX540/SGX543MP/Tegra2/Mali-400MP/Adreno 220 with finalised drivers/hardware.

But that's awkward due to the difference in overall systems rather than just GPU's.

I certainly don't think the Tegra 2 has any significant advantage GPU wise, however the Exynos is definately better as a CPU, And that's before taking into account the extra 20% clock speed.

Can confirm my O2 order has shown up in my account as well with a tracking number, so hopefully it will arrive on Tuesday :D

I ordered mine yesterday with O2 (inc the £90 cashback offer) and it said 5 working days for delivery, but my order shows as complete with a consignment number but when I enter it into DHL, it says nothing found. Maybe cos its a bank holiday, so Ill try again on Tuesday. Cant wait for this phone! ;)

Try quoting the email they sent me regarding the issue. I would be interested to know the outcome, I will find out on wednesday if I am capped

I'll do the same on Wednesday, from what I can tell people can get in un-capped, it can just take a few different calls until you get through to someone that will do it for you straight away.

So O2 have taken the money from my card but they cant even send me an email to confirm my order?...bit cheeky isnt it!?

Don't know if it helps but i ordered the £399 Pay & Go version through o2 this morning and promptly received 3 follow-up emails.

First to say the order is processing.
Second to say it had been passed to the warehouse and confirmation should come shortly.
Third to say it would be despatched shortly.

I cant yet track the order on the website though.

Yeah those were my initial thoughts but quidco only specified a 18/24m contract, nothing about a minimum cost or data so I'll argue for it if need be.

I'm sure others have already seem on hotukdeals but I'll post it here just to make sure.

300 mins & unlim. texts, 500mb - £15p/m, £180 total
Quidco, -£115
Total: £65, or £5.42p/m.

I'll no longer be needing my giffgaff sim!

hey im on the voda phone website and when they say on a plan "iphone sim only", does this mean that plan will only work on a iphone?

after more looking the only sims that have a data service with them are the iphone only and blackberry only plans. so i guess this is no good then right?

Looks like it,O2 store's are expecting stock on tuesday.
got mates who work in 2 local o2 shops,so I should be picking 1 up on tuesday unless my online order ships.

Thought I'd ask one of the online advisors for a laugh. He said they're expecting stock tomorrow. Wouldn't hold my breath on it, but still.

Evidence suggests otherwise;)

Benchmarks here & here also show the Tegra to be faster.

You are siting tests that was done on pre-production, not optimized software & hardware from february.
Now, fast forward to april (may now actually) and check out the new benchmarks wich perform much better than Tegra 2.

You also have to take into account that the SGS2 are capped at 60fps (vsync) so it will _never_ render graphics faster than 60fps. Because of this it will score lower in benchmarks than it's potential. Just wait til you can turn off that vsync and the benchmarks will fly way beyond the tegra scores..

Here are links to newer results of the SGSII compared to a Tegra2 device (LGO2X)

GLBenchmark 2.0 Scores:

..and remember that the SGSII's scores will only be even higher as soon as you turn off the vsync. (all the scores around ~58-59fps will then be higher)

I also saw a SmartBench 2011 result where the SGSII @stock 1.2GHz scored higher than an overclocked LGO2X @1.4GHz..

Mali is a norwegian tech, and we don't do things halfway;-)

'Nuff Said!!
