****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

tmob told me that it was the 13th may after threatening to leave.

prob just a load of nonsense, said they try and lok after their current customers and upgrades will get the phone sooner than new customers.....

sure:rolleyes:

Streeteh could you comment on the build quality please? You covered everything else rather nicely! Thanks.

I'm going to completely ignore things like looks etc as they're almost entirely based on preference.

The battery backplate is naff, but it's not at all structural, it's merely there to stop the battery falling out and once it's clipped in it's flush to the case so it's well supported and doesn't flex. The phone itself is solid, there's no denying that, it doesn't creak in the slightest and feels strong. The buttons all have a nice feel and there's no cheap looking gaps in the case or anything.

It's light, some people deem that as cheap feeling, i deem it as functional; i use sportypal a lot and like loose fitting shorts when i run so a heavy phone is something i want to avoid.

It feels well built to me.

Oh thanks for the swift reply.

So I assume it's much better than my Desire then, which also has a rubber backing that seems flimsy when you take it off. Any previous Desire owners care to comment the differences?

To be fair, I think I'm trying to justify a purchase already, because it seems like a win win to me ;)

Cheers!

Ordered on 1/5 from O2 and the order is now showing as complete (with DHL tracking code) though the O2 site seems to be having some troubles at the moment.

To those who already have an O2 account, should I be able to see both my existing PAYG account and new Pay Monthly under the My O2 login? Yesterday I could see my PAYG but today I can only see the Pay Monthly.

Have you ordered PAYG?

I ordered 28/4 and have no communications from O2 and getting a little ****ed off!

The Desire is pretty well built, I would imagine the backplate of the SGS2 is more flimsy than the back of the Desire, but I haven't got my SGS2 yet so can't accurately compare.

It doesn't matter either way though as you'll probably never take it off once you've put your SIM in and its flush to the chassis.

Topcashback are fantastic, ordered an O2 sim there around 18 months ago, got my £100, although tracking takes 2 days.

Also ordered a Nokia E72 and the cashback came through fine.

I wouldn't say is much better than the desire tbh, but that's because i consider the desire a well built phone!

What's so bad about the desire in your opinion? Just so i can say whether the GS2 has any of the issues you're worried about.

The Desire isn't actually bad at all, I guess I have a serious case of OCD'ness because every time I take off the back cover and put it back on again there is never a perfect fit (in my eyes). The cover is flimsy but also very strong, which confuses me sometimes :p

Of course that is subjective, but I was just wondering if the S II had a similar feeling/build to it.

It is indeed difficult as it's such a subjective topic. Once the backplate is on it's on tight and there's no give in it whatsoever as it's literally flush to the body of the phone. The phone itself feels like it could take a fair whack before anything could go wrong.

The glass used for the screen is something called gorilla glass which is apparently very strong and resistant to scratches.

That's even better than I thought! and that gorilla glass is simply awesome. There are a few videos on Youtube that show some guy stabbing it with pens and stuff and taking no damage!

Thanks again, always nice to get such a detailed opinion. I shall go treat myself to some pre-exam Android goodness.

Ordered the 24 month £13.50 contract. Haven't had any emails from O2 but the order details on the website show as complete.

has anyone else ordered through top cash back for the o2 deal (£90 or £100) and had the order tracked?

also, anyone else used top cash back before? what are your opinions of this site/company?

cheers :p

I've used TopCashBack for a few years now and have had no problems with most of my items tracking first time (I make sure to disable all popup/cookie/ad blockers and use FireFox with adblock disabled to reduce any risk of tracking cookies being blocked). I've had 2 items fail to track but both were paid out when I submitted enquires with the order details.

Last year I picked up a Nokia 2730 Classic and got £10 cash back through TCB without any problems.

I cancelled my Expansys pre-order and ordered it this afternoon on PAYG through the o2 website.

Had 3 emails within the space of 8 minutes:

Thank you for your O2 order
Important news about your O2 order
Important information about your order

The order status is showing as 'In Progress' for mine.

Someone off XDA has just asked about the PAYG being locked/unlocked and the advisor was adamant they would be unlocked. Could just be lip service to get him to buy...

Once you remove the battery cover of the phone you will be AMAZED at how flimsy it is. Weirdly though, while its attached there is no problems, no creaks or anything like that.

Also when you guys get your phones, I highly reccomend that you turn auto-brightness off, it seems to be VERY tempermental and a bit jarring to look at.

I actually haven't had a problem with auto brightness tbh. Yes it sometimes takes a second or two to adjust, but once it's decided it's pretty stable.
