****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

It only came out two days ago and only one person has posted anything much of note about having the phone (Streeteh), so dont feel too left out :p

But...but!

I've seen it £499.99 free del and in stock, I assume this is the kind of price that's reasonable?

I've still not heard back from my cousin yet, I think a furry of SMS messages are in order!

Also, bunging my desire in the local papers @ £200

Its £399 from O2 but it might be locked and apparently lightly branded, that is the cheapest price going.

Decided to complain about Contracts getting priority over PAYG, considering that you have to pay more up front. In return my order (which they have said numerous times they have not had required stock of) has now been sent.

Good to see others are finally getting theirs dispatched, once it gets into the hands of people more knowledgable than myself we'll see some interesting findings popping up i'm sure.

Just a couple of rather mundane updates:

1. First day since i've had it of what i'd call 'real world usage'. By that i mean the ocassional browse of the web, a few texts, a few emails, you know the drill. After being off charge since 7am it's reading at 74% charge remaining at the time of posting this (4pm). This is with Wifi, sync and GPS left on all day.

2. For those who plan to use it for 1080p films, a great bit of software for splitting mkvs into 4gb chunks seems to be MKVmerge GUI. I will get to grips with it and give a decent rundown of how it works at some point assuming no one else beats me to it.

Sorry, I've not read the rest of the huge thread, but what's the need to split it into 4Gb chunks?

You don't need to chunk 4GB films, it's crazy keeping the originals anyway. Use WinX HD Video Converter to transcode to mp4 and keep the res, drop the bitrate but quality remains the same. Filesizes will be much smaller and they're Youtube friendly.

I always though o2 phones were unlocked/unbranded? :/ Guess it's OK if you plan on flashing a new ROM on it though unless branding is on the phone case itself?

Both internal and external storage don't support NTFS so I've had to use FAT32 (unable to find a workaround). As a result it can only store files that are of a total size of 4gb.

Using this software you can split a MKV file larger than 4GB into chunks, you are then able to setup a playlist and it will play the entire video in order.

I want to play these back on a HDTV via MHL so lowering the bitrate isn't desirable for me. Remuxing a MKV takes less than 5 mins so i feel it's a pretty decent workaround if you want to preserve quality.

Its just the boot screen that was mentioned, still not certain about that though, check XDA.
