****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I have no idea how a splash and shut down screen could be annoying, I mean how many times a week do you turn it on and off? I'll only turn my phone off maybe once a week, if that. Or is it just being picky as hell, like those who have to have the perfect unlock screen or the phone becomes pants.

is anyone surprised by the lack of a user manual, all i got was a brief user guide, been searching samsung websites and cant find one
the galaxy s has an 140 page user manual, very annoying

My o2 PAYG order has been sent today for delivery tomorrow (I ordered last Thursday), I was starting to wonder if they'd ever get around to it from all the talk in this thread!

Right an update:

I had the in progress displayed on my order STILL (ordered on the 28th), so i phoned up O2 and spoke to their sales team.

The informed me that they do infact have stock and were puzzled as to why my order was displaying in progress still.

The guy I spoke to said he would push my order through the system again and I should call back in one hour to check.

I waited, checked my order and it still displayed 'in progress'

So I phoned again and after a while got through to a second fella who again checked the system and politely (nice call operators for anyone who cares) informed me that they did have stock, so as the previous op had left a comment about the previous forward he checked with the retail team and said they would call me back

About 30 mins later I get a voicemail informing me that they had stock, but previously hadnt and now my order would arrive first thing tomorrow!

Checked my mail and sure enough I have an email from DHL informing me of delivery tomorrow

i fitted one on my iphone, they are fairly easy to fit, just apply with a small amount of water and use a credit card to squeegy out the excess, i have one for my s2 but aint fitted it yet, i also got a soft mofi case from play.com for £5 which looks nice

Both internal and external storage don't support NTFS so I've had to use FAT32 (unable to find a workaround). As a result it can only store files that are of a total size of 4gb.

Doesn't internal run on ext4 ? (I was under impression it does) Btw how does 4GB limit work when recording video which needs more than 4GB ?

No sure about the internal partition for system storage, but the internal 16gb storage and the microsd card are both formatted in FAT32. I don't know whether the phone supports ext4.

It won't match the LG unit for text sharpness but its high contrast will pick out image details an LCD can't (that's why most will say it's clearer)

Dont think it has anything to do with contrast. The contrast makes everything look better but it cant make things look sharper. The actual pixels on the screen are a lot smaller and closer together than what you get on any other LCD based 800x480 phone.
Seems to be down to the sub-pixels as someone else said.

Agreed though it's not that the pixels are closer together, it's that the subpixels 'fill in the gap'. I like the end result tbh, even if someone sat down and stared at the iphone4 and this until they saw a difference (which i still maintain is impossible in 'real world' use) i doubt they could argue that the difference was worth the extra load the higher resolution causes.

streeteh, how are you getting on without a user manual?

Absolutely fine tbh.

I've never owned an Android phone btw so its not down to previous knowledge, before this all i've done is play with the display ones in shops. Android is just pretty intuitive.

With that said i wouldn't be surprised if there were features i'm missing out on, but so far i've figured out how to do all the phone stuff, configure all three of my emails accounts, set up my facebook and sync all of my calendars to google calendar, set up google docs sync, set up picasa sync, use the camera and all its settings, edit photos, change it to usb storage mode, playback 1080p mkvs transferred from my computer, install and configure emulators, use the satnav, use the voice recognition, geotag, etc. etc.

Considering i didn't need a manual for any of those i think it's safe to say Android is pretty damn intuitive. Hell i didn't even know there was such a thing as google docs or google calendar before i got this, i didn't even have a Gmail account.
